Top stolen vehicles for 2012

That's a good bet. Here in Texas, pickup trucks seem to line up at the Mexican border to go to their new homes, thus the preponderance of pickups in these lists. There is another factor here too - pickups are often more valuable on the grey market where they can be put into a fleet and never suspected. Of course the fact that security on pickups is pretty sketchy adds to their "steal-ability". When I had that bright-red 3/4 ton 4X4 Suburban I was told by local police that if it went missing, my first call shouldn't be to them, but to the border crossings at Laredo, Del Rio, and Brownsville.
While there are plenty of Luxury cars being stolen and shipped overseas, one big business seems to be, oddly enough, in vans. I had to park our old beater van around behind the house because I was being asked two or three times a week by rather well-dressed Mexicans if I wanted to sell it. I doubted it was for them, by their look, they could have afforded something much nicer. After having a couple of break-in attempts, I found out that there is a huge market for "people carriers", not so much drug mules. They are used almost exclusively in human trafficking, hauling not just agricultural laborers, but kidnap victims north where they are forced to work in labor camps. Evidently a well-used family van with US plates is just about the perfect cover for hauling a dozen illegals up from the border.

H2 use to be all over the roads, the leases seem to be running out on them so that is cutting down on the number, the ones that do end up on the used car lots seem to be repurchased by business that use them as giant promotional banners, as for the rest, gas is not cheap and using full size vehicles for daily commuting is no longer popular so I wonder how many of these H2's are left parked on the street with the keys in them

Except for the Charger and 300 which came out in 08, the entire list makes up a good chunk of vehicles on the road, the GM trucks and the Fords all make it way up into the 300,000 miles before they clunk out, Im sure people need parts, with that, I hope I never unknowingly buy a used part if I ever have a high mileage car

Cops often use electronically-rigged Escalades as bait-cars in inner-city areas because they know that, in that culture, unattended Escalades won't last long parked on the street. They are like candy to a five-year-old.
