Default Jaguar F-Type AWD reportedly coming to L.A. Auto Show

Jaguar recently downplayed the possibility of an all-wheel drive F-Type but a new report is indicating the company is indeed working on an all-wheel drive system for the stylish coupe and convertible.

Designed to help increase the model's appeal in colder climates, the all-wheel drive system will reportedly be offered on models equipped with six- and eight-cylinder engines. However, it remains unclear if it be available with the six-speed manual transmission.

Interestingly, Car Magazine is reporting the addition of all-wheel drive will require a bulging hood to accommodate the front driveshaft and differential. Our spies have previous spotted an F-Type with a new hood but, at the time, it was believed to be an entry-level four-cylinder variant.

Regardless, the all-wheel drive F-Type will reportedly debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year.

Default 2015 Jaguar F-Type AWD spied on a trailer

Could debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show

An all-wheel drive Jaguar F-Type coupe has been spied being hauled on a trailer.

Looking instantly recognizable, the "Plant Launch Vehicle" has a camouflaged front end which is expected to hide a slightly revised hood to accommodate the additional running gear. The rear badging is also covered and is believed to hide an AWD badge on the right side.

Jaguar has remained relatively quiet about the all-wheel drive system but it should be offered on F-Types equipped with six- and eight-cylinder engines.

The all-wheel drive F-Type is expected to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, so expect to learn more in November.

Default Jaguar F-Type Project 7 Visits Harry's Garage

As an adviser for Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division since September 2013, Harry Metcalfe has access to rare cars such as the gorgeous Jaguar Project 7.

What started out as a concept car evolved into a limited series production car, with Jaguar announcing that it would build 250 F-Type Project 7 road-going examples. However, there’s only one car built so far, and Harry Metcalfe was able to drive it and park it in his own driveway.

That’s really impressive, since the F-Type Project 7 is not only unique (at the moment), but is also the fastest and most powerful Jaguar ever built, with power coming from a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 575PS (567hp) and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque. It does 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 300 km/h (189 mph).

But there’s a lot more to this car than just performance figures, and watching the latest video from Harry’s Garage will give you everything you need to know about it.

Default Hennessey Boosts Jaguar F-Type V8 to 623 HP

The most powerful V8-motivated version of the Jaguar F-Type Coupe, the R, makes 542 hp. That’s a lot, and even if the F-Type is not really the lightest of cars, it’s still pushed to sixty in four-ish seconds – a very competent, though not extraordinary time.

Should you need more, though, Hennessey no offers a pack that boosts the output to 623 hp, making the car even harder to launch cleanly…

The American tuner says sixty comes up even quicker, in 3.5 seconds, while the quarter mile is dispatched in 11.4 seconds.

They achieve this using a custom software map, an upgraded supercharger pulley, a custom induction system and a custom cooling system for the intercooler.

A three-year or 36,000-mile warranty is also offered, though pricing is not readily available and you have to personally inquire to find it out.

Default Jaguar F-Type gets all-wheel drive in time for Los Angeles debut [video]

Debuts November 19

Jaguar has announced the implementation of an all-wheel drive system for the F-Type range.

There were rumors about an AWD F-Type and now Jaguar has made the news official and they say the F-Type R Coupe can sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds which makes it 0.1s quicker than its rear-wheel drive sibling while the top speed has remained the same at an electronically-capped 186 mph (300 km/h).

Coinciding with the all-wheel drive F-Type launch is Jaguar's announcement to collaborate with the British World Land Speed Record Team. The technological partnership between Jaguar and The Bloodhound Project aims to establish a land speed record of more than 1,000 mph (1,609 km/h) in 2016 to take down the current record of 763,035 mph (1,227 km/h) established back in 1997 by Andy Green in a Thrust SSC who will also get to drive the Bloodhound Supersonic car.

Getting back to the AWD F-Type, the range will be introduced on November 19 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and Jaguar says next year the model family will be expanded from 6 to 14 members and among these will probably be versions equipped with a manual gearbox as well as a four-cylinder Ingenium engine.

Default 2016 Jaguar F-Type gains six-speed ZF manual gearbox on select versions

Available only for RWD V6 versions

Jaguar has announced the 2016 F-Type will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission developed in collaboration with ZF.

Earlier this month we found out the F-Type will get an all-wheel drive system and now Jaguar has confirmed the rumors about the availability of a manual gearbox. However, it will be offered only on the rear-wheel drive versions equipped with the V6 3.0-liter engine in both 340 HP & 380 HP flavors. The gearbox benefits from a lightweight aluminum alloy casing and has a semi-dry sump lubrication system for improved efficiency.

As for the aforementioned AWD system, it will be standard on the F-Type R Coupe & Convertible and optional on the 380 HP V6 F-Type S Coupe & Convertible. Moreover, Jaguar has announced the 2016MY will replace the hydraulic steering with an Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system which promises to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Other changes include the adoption of a standard 770-watt Meridian surround sound system, SiriusXM Satellite Radio & HD Radio, keyless entry and 14-way power-adjustable seats. Opt for the coupe and you also get a standard panoramic sunroof while the R Coupe gets a power tailgate. Lastly, the F-Type S models now come with a driver-selectable active exhaust, flat-bottomed race-like steering wheel and a configurable dynamic mode.

Default Jaguar F-Type R to be Sold in US Only as AWD

You can kiss burnouts in the V8-powered F-Type R goodbye if you live in the US, because Jaguar will cease imports of rear-wheel drive models, solely offering it as AWD.

That’s due to the UK-based manufacturer’s shakeup of its US range with the newly introduced all-wheel drive and manual gearbox option.

So, if you want the full 550 hp R model, you will not be able to order it with rear wheel drive. In fact, now that the 495 hp V8 S has been killed off too, you can’t really get a V8 F-Type without AWD.

Even so, it’s no biggie if you were after purity, because you can now get it with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, though you have to make do with the supercharged V6 (in either state of tune). In making the R exclusively AWD, Jaguar has limited its appeal, while at the same time making it a kind of Nissan GT-R/Porsche 911 Turbo rival.

The R will still be offered without AWD elsewhere outside the US, though manuals will continue to be V6-only options no matter where you order it.

Default Jaguar Recalls 7,000 F-Types in the US for Defect in Passenger Airbag Activation

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 7,097 of the F-Type in the US because of a faulty passenger-side airbag wiring.

The recall, says Jaguar, affects 2014 and 2015MY cars and the defect is that the seatbelt harness connector might not have been wired as it should, possibly affecting the sensors that “decide” when the passenger’s airbag should be deployed.

The sensor may not register a person “of smaller stature” sitting in the passenger seat and may not activate the airbag in the case of an accident, thus increasing the chances of an injury.

So far, JLR has received three reports related to the issue though there have been no accidents or injuries reported. The harness connector wire configuration will be installed correctly by the dealers at no cost and the recall will begin before January 5.

Default Chris Harris’ Verdict on the Jaguar F-type R Coupe is Quite a Shocker

Give Chris “The Monkey” Harris anything with four wheels and he’ll manage to drift it without breaking any sweat. Imagine then what happens when he has 550hp reaching the tarmac through the rear axle. Yep, he’ll shred those tires in no time.

Said 550hp come in the form of the supercharged V8 that’s under the sculpted bonnet of the Jaguar F-type Coupe in its range-topping R version. Like Harris, your truly believes that the new Jag looks much prettier in coupe form than as a convertible; not to mention that 80 percent stiffer chassis the company has been talking about…

Harris has been given a dark-colored, sinister looking Coupe R and a free reign on both road and track. Surprisingly, he did find quite a few faults but those didn’t stop him from making a couple of statements in his verdict that we really didn’t expect, given that one of them involves a certain rear-engined favorite of his. So watch the video and find out for yourselves right after the jump.

Default Jaguar F-Type Coupe Tries On A Startech Outfit For Geneva

Jaguar's F-Type is already a stunner, but for a little something more special, Startech will trot out is new tuning package for the British sports car at the Geneva motor show.

At this point, official information on the kit is not just limited; it's non-existent, as Brabus' subsidiary remains coy about the details.

Nevertheless, the pictures reveal that Startech has designed a carbonfiber aero kit comprising a front lip spoiler, side skirts with small wings and a rear diffuser, while other exterior mods include the new vertical (instead of horizontal) front fender vent panels, and multispoke wheels in beefy tires.

The car also appears to be riding in on a lowered suspension – at least in the photoshopped (?) images.

There's a fully customized interior as well, with new leather upholstery and customized headliner and carpet together with fresh trim décor.

We'll soon find out if Startech made any performance enhancements under the F-Type's hood too or if it's a styling package only.
