Sorry, don't agree at all. I still think this looks like a Toyota. The GS may be more refined but it also looks more substantial. Introducing a GS that looks like this is like Infiniti introducing the M37 with all the swoops and curves that doesn't look like it fits in the luxury car segment. Even Mercedes has taken the pontoons out of the E Class.
I do like this though... as a Toyota.
Vaguely resembles the offspring of a Pontiac G8 and Mazda 6.

What exactly is the positioning of the Crown models nowadays with Lexus being introduced to the Japanese market a couple years back? Before this I believe the Crown models were top of the line. Are they positioned below Lexus now?

It is very successful - new crazy crown grille brought many new buyers into the lineup.

same as before... premium Toyota's, Lexus lineup comes above those. They are developing a whole lineup of near-luxury/premium Toyota's now - Harrier, Esquire, Crown and Mark X, thats directly competing with Lexus of course, at lower prices and lower luxury of course.

Crown will always be positioned below the Lexus brand, but I think it's also important to understand the cultural differences in Japan such that Crown's market segmentation includes not being as ostentatious as a Lexus. This is attractive to many potential buyers there. It's similar to how the Toyota Century, despite having a V12 and lots of luxury options (like air suspension and massage seats in the back) geared towards being chauffeured around, doesn't cost much more than the LS460 (and costs significantly less than the LS600hL).
Toyota Mark X GRMN is a Sedan the US Needs
If there’s one sedan that could change the public’s perception of Toyota in the U.S., it’s the Mark X.
Unfortunately the Mark X isn’t available in North America and it’s a shame because it’s far from a generic, mundane sedan like the Camry or even the Lexus IS. In Japan, the Toyota Mark X 350S is a front engine, rear-wheel drive sedan sporting a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 321 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. When you combine that with the tuning prowess of Gazoo Racing the result is a sports sedan that the U.S. market greatly lacks. Making its debut at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon is the 2015 model year Mark X GRMN equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and a Torsen limited-slip differential. There’s plenty more to it than that with a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes and chassis modifications that make it ready for the track or even to go sideways at a drift event.
On the outside, the Mark X GRMN boasts a new front bumper, black mirror covers, rear bumper with diffuser, a carbon fiber rear lip spoiler and a quad-tip exhaust setup. On all four corners are 19-inch wheels while the inside gets carbon fiber trim and a three-spoke steering wheel finished in Alcantara. According to the Japanese automaker, the Toyota Mark X GRMN will be limited to just 100 units and will cost roughly the equivalent of $44,700 when it goes on sale in March.
