I'm actually agreeing with RA40, we are both agreeing how this thread/forum has turned lol and we actually agree on the styling points. As evidenced by the above post.

Bear in mind that Lexus started designing the 4GS in 2008. The Hyundai taillights become fully exposed in August 2009. The design by Katsuhiko Inatomi for the 4GS was frozen in 2009 under Akio Toyoda, so I'd say that was between July and December that year. The design patent, showcasing the production 4GS, was filed on October 6, 2010. In that case it's hard to say when the taillight cluster was designed, as clay models generally do not incorporate turn signals or reverse lights until later on. Many folks had commented on how the YF Sonata looked similar to the Lexus ES and some Toyota models, so I think it's questionable who copied who in this case. These are the patent images from 2010:

On the freeway this morning, I was behind a 4GS F-Sport about 1/4 miles away. My mind instantly register Sonata. Then as I get closer, I see those chrome exhaust surround, then I was thinking maybe it is the new Azera. In the back of my mind though, I know it could be a 4GS, but since 4GS is still pretty rare on the street now, so a Hyundai products is more likely.
Only when I get pretty close that I can confirm that it is a 4GS.
Compare to the rear end of the 2GS that is still unmistakable from a mile away.

And that was the whole point of this thread. Yes they do have similarity to one another. To deny that just makes no sense.
It's personal as to how close you need to get to either before you can tell them apart. And just as personal whether that distance is upsetting to you, lol.
EDIT: I finally saw my first 4GS (silver) on my way home from work yesterday (which is strange since there is a dealership less than 10 mins away) coming toward me from a light. Thought it was an F at first (because there aren't too many here and it looked too big and aggressive for a regular IS)... I barely noticed the spindle and didn't realize it was a GS until i saw the profile (it turned in front of me). It was my first time seeing it in motion and it wasn't as upsetting as I thought it would be. I'm still not a fan of the rear but I'm not offended by the remaining 3/4 of the car as I thought I would be. It looks like an IS on steroids coming at you which isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess.
