Nissan had the same philosophy except it lead to the GT-R. And they were well ahead of any of their Japanese competitors in offering a hard-core affordable sports car after the market for them died back in the 90's. I think they are well capable to building a sub-Z sports car in-house and a great one at that.

With Infiniti sharing Renault/Benz parts and the 3 brands having an alliance I just don't see it being a Nissan only effort.

As a guy who wants to set up a cheap RWD weekend track car I want all of the RWD options I can get. I may still just go with a high mileage EVO and rebuild it

Had an '02 Spec-V with the Getreg 6-speed, and it was quite a nice set-up. Good power, great torque, and the close ratio gearbox kept you spooled up constantly. Was kinda wasted in a FWD car...

Kinda. The GT-R is built on the same production line as Skylines/G25/37's and does share some things (not sure what) and its a phenomonal car but 100k, not the price of the FT86 triplets or this proposed car.

The idea of a Silvia/240 revival was kicked around a few years back and I guess there wasn't a sound business case for it at the time. I think Nissan is waiting to see how the FRS does before they pull the trigger. In the meantime, the Juke is selling reasonably well.

Well Autocar has the BRZ beating the 370Z and MX-5 already.....The review just glows about the BRZ.

We have only been asking for a modern 240/silvia for the last 5 years, and instead they build the murano convertible, a thing no one wants ! I hope the people at Nissan wake up and give us a cheap rwd , fun to drive car. p.s. a turbo would be great !
