Quick Spin: 2012 Hyundai Equus
i understand why people want Equus to be great - who wouldnt want great car at discount price?
But if you check both Autoblog long term review as well as Inside Line, you will see that they both had same wear quality issues after only 6 months with the car. So obviously to get to that price, corners are being cut.
And as to the sales, if you check inventory levels, currently Hyundai has 100 days worth of Equus in the stock, so no, it is not selling well at 250 per month.

but don't get me wrong, i still love the LS! and have no doubt the new one will trounce the equus.
The Equus while a great Hyundai doesn't do anything better than the competition.
it's not for everyone, but then nor is any other model. in a similar way, i don't think the LS really has any competition. it's either for you or it's not. it's really VERY different than an s-class, which in turn, is VERY different than a 7 series. everyone wants a horse race out of dissimilar models. i don't care.
The improvements to the engine/tranny are fantastic
Hopefully the next generation won't look directly like a LS/S-class rip off and will surely show improvement all over.
What it does do better than its competitors is price. For the thousands of retirees out there who want a luxury car but would like to watch their pocket books this car is the best bet. I work in a retirement community and I will tell you that dollars and cents goes a lot further for them than image . They just a nice comfortable and affordable car with a great warranty. I can imagine they will sell more of them next year as the word spreads.
No. I disagree. The Fiat 500, for under 20K, offers 14 different colors in the American market......and dealerships seem to have all 14 of them readily in stock. Keeping the price down by lmiting paint-choice is one thing, but you are talking about a 60-65K car here....a car that claims to compete (and does, in some ways) with the Lexus LS460.
The $65k Equus is a cut rate car that compete with $95k LS460L and $110k S550 / 750Li.
I am surprise you don't understand this.
I saw one in the lot of my office this morning and I have to say the exterior look great. I love the way it looks. The interior is where I think it falls short......well that and rep
The material quality and finishes are low, from the leather to the chrome to everything, it is lower quality. Go look at the chrome wheels on the Equus, looks like a cheap aftermarket job. The factory chrome plating on the wheels of the Lexus LS is flawless.
I guess the equus is somewhat a breath of fresh air after seeing so many LS, S class, 7 series around here.
To me, it has the presence of a flagship, just don't mind the lack of a snobby badge
Then when you see an RL,
Wow, that's what I was afraid of after checking out the interior. I felt the leather was too thin

I guess it all depends on what is important to the owner.
Without the cool novelty factor, I think I will still prefer the full size Equus.
