If you got the money to keep it around, E63!

Really? I always thought W211 are not very reliable, not as bad as the W220, but still not very good. But I just found out my neighbor got 250k miles on their W211 E500, so maybe they are reliable, they finally gave up on it though.

that's why i said for mb in parenthesis. it's not lexus reliability, and i don't know how it compares to the w221 (new generation mb), but i know quite a few people with the car and they all say it's pretty solid (unlike those i know with w220)

Yes of course I won't compare to Lexus, just MB in general. W221 is best of course. W220 is worst. W221 is somewhere in the middle I guess.

I'm leaning towards the E55. I can use the extra amount to do the E63 front conversion, a lot of people over at MB forums have done the conversion. Price is not bad either. My old boss had an 05 E55 and he got 150k on the engine with no problem whatsoever. Like what SICK said 500hp is enough but the potential to make crazy power with the blower is very tempting.

W221 is best in the modern era, in the last decade. You can't compare old to new, old got much less to break. In history, the W140 is probably best of the best, along with the W124. You still see a bunch of those on the road.

Air shocks never last, even Lexus can't get it right, then you know is impossible

That's just how air shock is. I am waiting to see how long the ABC last on the CL63, I am sure it will fail soon

no you don't get me. bad engineering means it breaks fast before warranty expires. good engineering means it goes a long way before it breaks. great engineering means it breaks right after warranty so customer is screwed (as in a lot of other stuff too)

Air shock sucks! Even my LS430 didn't last. The only airshock I see fairly reliable is the ones on the LX470.

Love my E63, aside from replacing a steering angle sensor she has been absolutely trouble free.

The S-class usually has the newest tech thrown into it which eventually trickles down to the other models. They crammed so much new stuff into the W220 and tried to do it cheaply, hence all the issues. The W221 has been relatively trouble free. My S550 feels like a Lexus compared to our old S500 by a long shot.

Airmatic suspension in all MB will fail at some point, just hoping I have my extended warranty when it happens. LOL.

I don't know the difference in reliability between the AMG 55 and 63 engines, but I would gravitate toward the 63. Newer, facelift, NA, even if the actual implementation results in an overall slower car.
