Volkswagen to start building Porsches this fall

Volkswagen still has to go over the river and through the woods before it can close the deal to take over Porsche, but this fall it will begin building them. Primary Boxster production will commence this summer at Porsche's factory in Zuffenhausen, where the 911 is also built.

Overflow production will be handled by VW at its Osnabrück plant, which also handles assembly for the VW Golf Cabriolet and overflow Porsche Cayman production. The arrangement isn't unexpected, with plans for the Osnabrück option mentioned as far back as 2010.

coinciding with VW purchase of Porsche, Porsche has been falling in the JD ratings... coincidence?

Nothing new really. In the 70s and 80s VW built the Porsche 924 at their Neckarsulm plant. The two companies have a long working relationship together.
Previous model Boxters were manufactured at Valmet Automotive under contract to Porsche at a facility in Uusikaupunki, Finland.

agreed. to add to that it seems the larger a company gets the more their reliability/quality slips. Look at when GM and Toyota were both on top. Sure VW has its sights on that "#1" and world domination but I don't think that goal is worth poor image and products in the long run

VW is the next GM. Going to get too big, too slow to compete.

VW is much more profitable than GM. Last year VW net profit is almost 3 times higher than GM's record profit in history.

#1 in Profit is more important than #1 in Sales. Last year GM is #1 in Sales while VW is #1 in Profit. Anything in Quality/Reliability must be converted into Profit to be considered as successful because the final goal of any company is Profit.
