2013 Ford Mustang teaser leaked
Ford is set to reveal its updated 2013 Mustang at the 2011 LA Auto Show on Tuesday, but the automaker has released a teaser image via the company's Facebook page depicting a handful of the changes to the model. Those include new head- and taillights, as well as the Track App display. The spy shots we've seen so far have indicate that the 2013 Ford Mustang GT will borrow plenty of aesthetic cues from the current Shelby GT500 model, which means buyers should be able to look forward to more aggressive styling all around.
Some of those exterior tweaks likely have aerodynamic origins, including a new chin splitter and rear spoiler. We like what we've seen so far, and we can't wait to hear what Ford has planned for the 2013 GT500 when that vehicle bows. With the arrival of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the top-dog Mustang finally has some muscle car competition, which is always good news for fans of the pony car genre.

Well, the new generation came out as a MY10.
Engine upgrades were made for MY11. No significant changes to MY12.
Since most cars go through a refresh/refurb every 3 years, the MY13 was due for one anyways.
From the look of things, I like the more modern approach to its design, rather than playing the retro-styling card. I look forward seeing it later this week at the L.A. Auto Show...

The base car's full pics just hit Autoblog.
I agree, it's too soon for another facelift. Was enjoying the current car as it was. However, glad to see they are modernizing the front end instead of going backward. The new tails look more dated though.

I welcome the changes - and am actually surprised they didn't leave it since it was just redone and selling pretty well. I'm guessing to be one step ahead of the Camaro they're doing to do what it takes!
I guess you guys don't realize that back in the day the automakers made changes EVERY YEAR. A real car guy could pick out the exact year of the car just because they knew the chrome trim changed only slightly or they rearranged little things like badging.
All changes posted here: Autoblog 2013 Mustang updates
A cool feature they added is LED lights on the mirrors that project the pony onto the ground when the car is unlocked. Sounds like the designers are having fun with it... nice.

When Chevrolet unveiled the 580 hp 2012 Camaro ZL1 and its high-tech magnetically-adjustable suspension, ostensibly claiming the title of king of the pony cars, the folks from Ford were oddly unfazed.
“Don’t worry,” they said, “wait until you see what we have in the works.”
They weren’t kidding.
The 2013 Shelby GT500 will come packing a 650 hp supercharged engine that Ford says is the most powerful production V8 in the world. The 5.8-liter mill sends its 600 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber driveshaft.
Even more impressive, the top speed of the new Shelby is said to be over 200 mph, making it the first Ford since the GT supercar capable of breaking the double century mark. And it does it without incurring a gas guzzler tax, according to Ford, although it hasn’t yet revealed what the exact fuel economy is. The current, 550 hp GT500 manages to squeak by the tax with a 15 mpg city, 23 mpg hwy rating.
Nearly every major component of the drivetrain was altered to achieve these goals. There’s a new supercharger, intake system, intercooler, clutch, transmission gearing, the works.
Most important for daily drivers, Ford is for the first time on a Mustang offering an active suspension option with an electronically-adjustable Bilstein dampers that promise a smooth ride to the track and world class handling on it. A retuned stability and traction control system, now with launch control, are also included.
The entire Mustang lineup is being refreshed for 2013 with updated lights, grille, rear fascia and body color rocker panels, but the GT500 gets a unique front splitter to better handle the speeds it is now capable of. A new in-dash performance computer can clock acceleration times and features a drag strip-style “Christmas Tree” countdown timer.
The Shelby GT500 is set to go on sale in spring 2012.

I personally don't like too many redesigns. I'm not so stuck up that I have to have a rare car to feel good about myself. I don't have a lot of cash, so when looking for a certain style of a model, I like to have a wide selection to choose from(think Ford Super Duty, they've had the same basic design since late 98 now).
