The fact that some people hate it is actually a good thing.
And that's certainly not limited to Lexus spindle grilles. While some of the spindle grilles, IMO, are indeed garish, oversized, or overpowering, the same can also be said for a number of newer grilles from Audi, Mitsubishi, Lincoln, Cadillac...and, yes, unfortunately, even some of the waterfall grilles from Buick. That seems to be a growing auto-industry trend nowadays, just like ever-lower profile tires and ever-more-raked rooflines for sedans. Of course, Rolls and Bentley have always used the big uniquely-shaped grilles as trademarks....but they are both low-volume makes.

Some of the most unique grilles can be found on Lincolns. The new MKS changes the grille-theme to horizontal instead of vertical, but most of the the rest of the Lincoln line-up has the look of (what I call) a Smiley-teen-ager showing off a new set of braces.

To be fair that older Lincoln design language on the MKT and MKS will change soon the prettier MKC and MKX style

i like the new face of Lexus. for years people have complained that Lexus was boring and blah blah blah, and now they do something new and aggressive and people still complained. w/e, as others have stated, their sales are up.

on a different note, i think Cadillac is the only luxury brand that saw a drop in sales.

Cadillac, too, has a way of polarizing people with its wedgy, Stealth-Fighter type of styling, though I thought one big exception was the 2Gen CTS Sportwagon, which was really sharp-looking. At the time, both me and Mike (1SICKLEX) thought that it was arguably the best-looking American-nameplate vehicle, with the possible exception of the Mustang.

Actually, it looks like our own "Big Grin" icon-symbol right here in the CL forums:
