Hyundai Reveals New i30, May Come to the U.S

The compact-sized i30 brings a fresh design with a more unique feel than the outgoing model of the same name, which in the States, is offered only in station wagon form as the Elantra Touring.
The exterior styling follows the Fluidic Sculpture design language of the recently launched i40 series (available in both sedan and station wagon formats) with a large hexagonal front grille, wraparound headlamps, a bulging belt line and pronounced front wheel arches.
The interior design is also modeled after Hyundai's latest creations such as the Veloster featuring a pair of deep-set gauges and a prominent center console.
The new i30 will launch as a five-door hatchback with a choice of fuel-efficient four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines.
More details are to be released shortly, so stay tuned on Carscoop for more.

The Elantra Touring will be dropped and a hatchback variant of the new Elantra will take its place, this may be it.

A very nice design. And compact cars are hard to do. This body is sporty, elegant, and modern, all in one. That's till a huge gaping mouth, but everything else makes up for it. Hyunday has their act together, unlike Honda and even Toyota for that matter.

I am betting that the Japanese and the American car companies are freaking out. That thing will sell very well in the states. Its an attractive compact. Thats unheard of

I really can't appreciate the swoopy alien-inspired interior. It's overwrought and multifarious. I get dizzy looking at it.
However, the exterior is distinctive and modern without being crude. Wheels need to be less patterned; not that I want it to be utilitarian, but it's a bit too stylized.

This is a really good looking 5-door hatchback. But where does this fit? Below the Accent?
Hyundai doesn't really need this many cars in the smaller segment. At some point it's just competing with other Hyundais.

As superb as the Mazda 2/Demio is, I'd get this Hyundai i30 over it anytime.
Hang on:
They compete in different segments though. The MZ2 is a subcompact while the i30 I believe is in the compact class (C-segment).

I think this is best Hyundai design so far... there are small nitpicks like always the same interior and too large steering wheel for this car.
Major thing to me is that they ALWAYS copy other cars - did they really have to copy Alfa design for the rear end?
Thing is - i30 was very popular here since it was the cheapest car in the class and it was also pretty decent. This one will not be the cheapest car anymore so things like copying other cars might hurt it.
Just like Veloster being 80-90% Renault Megane coupe copy, including exactly the same wheels.
