Default 2012 BMW M3 Pickup?! WTF? But DO WANT.

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/15/s...ound-the-ring/

My first thoughts:

1) WTF?
2) Where do I sign?

Anyone have any ideas what's going on? But this seems awesome (the smiling guy in the passenger seat seems to agree). Despite the fact that with the way you'd drive an M3, not much would stay in the pickup bed...

Spy Photos: 2014 BMW M3 Pickup Testing on The 'Ring
By Mike Magrath | March 15, 2011

...and this, friends, is how you kick off the new testing season at the Nurburgring.

We've been hearing for a while now that the 2014 BMW M3 would be shedding a few pounds when it is fully redesigned. We knew that it would lose a few cylinders when switching from the V8 to a twin-turbo V6, but we didn't know that meant losing a few seats -- and doors and a trunk -- as well. So when our spy photographers caught this M3amino testing on the Ring it was a bit of...uh... a surprise. I mean, we know that small pickups are the hottest thing going in Thailand right now and that developing markets are the next growth zone for luxury cars, but...

So: Best flower car ever? Aussie Ute slayer? High Speed (bulk) Pizza delivery? The German G8 Sporttruck GM wouldn't give us? Invisible hatchback?

Whatever, I want one more than a wagon. Must. Drive.

UPDATE: And...product planner-to-the-car-stars Jim Hall tells us it's a one-off parts hauler for ZTechnik or another BMW motorcycle accessory builder that's used just around the compound. As for camouflage, Hall said: ""Camouflage means nothing. BMW puts camouflage on anything and everything. Look at that BMW Vision Connected concept. That has camouflage and they're obviously not building that."

A sports car that you can take to your Home Depot and haul some stuff in? Not a bad idea....

And it might outsell the old X3 too (not really much of an accomplishment).

I wonder how much sales traction new X3 is getting....
