I read the title and the first thing to come to mind was the Acura. The Venza isn't too bad IMO and the Mazda is just plain funny!

Acura's grilles ruined most of their cars. I wish they could just admit it's ugly, and move on. Atleast Mazda says they will do that, we will see...

The Venza's ugly, ridgy schnoz is the only thing marring a basically good-looking crossover. Murano is overwrought rather than unpleasant, IMO. The Hondas are pug-ugly in the face.

Though it is not specifically on the thread-title list, the new Sonata's grille (and general overall styling) does not impress me much either.

Yes, maybe a snow plow option (to be integrated with that ugly shovel nose) for the SUV versions would help sales in the snow belt

I mostly agree with this list. It is mind-boggling how well the Mazda3 is selling in Canada, despite the smiley face. . What makes it more boggling is many Mazda fans hate the current styling of Mazda.

I disagree with the Super Duty and Murano, I find them attractive enough

i don't mind the mazda smile.

it makes the car look happy, and it makes you think the owner might be a happy person too.

a car can say something about your personality.

bmw's kidney grille says you're probably a douchebag. and the latest version says you're a pig.

Or it could also mean you're a creepy person, regarding the Mazda grille.

In any case, Mazda is going to be changing the "smiley" styling theme, so obviously they received enough criticism to move away from it.

It sells on reputation, like the civic. Underneath it's a great car as well.

Two weeks ago we bought a 2011 Mazda3 for a dd. The smiley face was almost a deal breaker for me (could barely look at it) but surprisingly, my wife didn't mind it so much. I gave in and am getting used to it.

Fortunately in this case our state requires a front license plate, so that coupled with the fog lights kind of fills up the gaping hole a bit.

For a small car the interior materials, fit & finish, quietness, ride and handling is great. Much better than the others we looked at.
