2012 Cadillac SRX gains more powerful 3.6-liter engine, new features
How it should have been in the first place..
Cadillac has officially announced a host of changes for the 2012 SRX crossover, including a new standard engine – General Motors' 3.6-liter direct-injected V6. This powerplant will serve as the only available engine on the SRX here in the United States, replacing both the base 3.0-liter V6 and 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 that was axed earlier this year.
Under the hood of the 2012 SRX, the 3.6-liter mill produces 300 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque – increases of 35 hp and 37 lb-ft over the anemic 3.0-liter engine that served as the base engine when the SRX was refreshed for the 2010 model year. The new V6 offers the same amount of horsepower as the discontinued 2.8-liter turbocharged unit, though it's down on torque by 35 lb-ft.
In addition to its new heart, the 2012 SRX will offer standard Bluetooth connectivity on all models, and a standard heated steering wheel on luxury, performance and premium trims. Additionally, performance and premium trim levels get a new 20-inch wheel option. Pricing will be announced in a few months when the 2012 SRX officially starts production.

That is the engine this vehicle should have debuted with. Instead GM wasted time and money chasing after weak and expensive powertrains the market did not ask for or need. Another poor move in modern times.

This car's build quality is terrible, I had one as a rental it sucked! Not to mention the trans cant figure out which gear it wants to stay in during WOT. The Flex (not the same class but same rental price) is a much better car.

This is a good move by Cadillac. What I don't understand is why not offer the 2.0L turbo. Sure, it may not be as refined as some other engines (though it is going the Karma). But, if Caddy was willing to try the 3.0L, which is not an impressive engine by any means, why not offer the efficient 2.0L?

DETROIT – The Cadillac SRX, a fast-rising favorite among midsize luxury crossovers, receives a significant upgrade for the 2012 model year starting in August. A new 308-horsepower 3.6L direct-injected V6 engine gives SRX the most standard power in its class, and includes a driver-selectable ECO Mode for optimal fuel economy.
While gaining substantial horsepower, the new LFX engine delivers comparable fuel economy to predecessor engines because of its more mass-efficient design and the ECO Mode, which sets revised shift points in the 6-speed HydraMatic automatic transmission to maximize economy.
The 2012 SRX carries a standard price of $36,060 including $875 destination charge. Other upgrades and changes in the SRX for 2012 include standard Bluetooth on all models, an optional heated steering wheel, a xenon Blue Metallic exterior paint option that will be available in fall 2011, an all-ebony interior option with contrasting stitching, and a new 20-inch wheel finish option.
"We're taking a winning product in the SRX and reaching higher," said Don Butler, Cadillac vice president of marketing. "The crossover category is one of the biggest and most important segments in the luxury market. SRX has performed very well and is the best selling Cadillac worldwide, but our approach is not to leave well enough alone."
Since the current generation launched 2010, SRX sales in the United States have moved from ninth to second in the segment, overtaking nearly all competitors. SRX retail sales are up 18 percent in 2011, gaining 1.5 share points this year. Additionally, 71 percent of SRX buyers are new to Cadillac, a high "conquest" rate in a luxury segment known for tradition and loyalty.
SRX features an advanced All Wheel Drive system with electronic limited slip rear differential that distributes power front-to-rear, and also can move power across the rear axle based on driving conditions and traction. The chassis includes Adaptive Real-Time damping technology for excellent ride control. Rainsense automatic windshield wipers connect to the braking system, enabling the brakes to conduct slight periodic caliper applications, keeping rotors dry for optimal stopping power in wet conditions.
SRX includes HID headlamps with Adaptive Forward Lighting, Bose 5.1 surround sound with navigation, a full-color LCD Driver Info Center, and a rear-view camera system. OnStar is standard and features myCadillac and OnStar RemoteLink mobile apps and Stolen Vehicle Assistance.
The SRX is Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2011 Top Safety Pick with industry-leading active and passive safety and crash avoidance systems.

lol so gas mileage remains the same ir not marginally better or worse. Honestly, every automaker is whipping out more powerful engines with more fuel efficiency so this is a bit of a letdown

The MPG for this small SUV is pathetic. Yeah, the hp is nice, but you think the average middle-aged wife is going to care?
The reason for the bad MPG is probably due to the weight - 4300lbs according to the Cadillac website. That's more than our 2011 4WD Highlander! This was for the 2011 model though.. but I doubt it lost anything going with the 3.6L engine.

Well, our RX weighs ~4300 lbs and gets 18/24mpg (we are seeing similar actual numbers). I think the one major thing that SRX buyers did not like was the power of the 3.0L (265 hp), so it does seem to matter. To me if the engine can get a 40HP boost and still get the same mileage (18/25), then I would be good with that.
