Default 2013 Infiniti EX, FX get 3.7L V6, G25 discontinued

2013 Infiniti EX, FX get 3.7L V6, G25 discontinued

Shouldn't this have happened by now? For 2013, both the Infiniti EX and FX crossovers will be powered by the automaker's 325-horsepower 3.7-liter V6, replacing the 3.5-liter V6. Naturally, the official nomenclature has been changed to EX37 and FX37 for the new model year.

We have to wonder, though: Why add the 3.7-liter unit to the EX and FX for 2013 but launch the all-new JX with the old 3.5-liter engine? Engine plant capacity issues?

Regardless, the larger engine means there will be 28 more horsepower on tap in the EX and 22 more ponies available in the FX. For those seeking even more crossover thrills, the V8-powered FX50 will still be offered, packing 390 hp.

The 2013 FX gets a couple other bits of freshening-up in the form of some new paint colors, including a Limited Edition model painted in Moonlight White. Moving Object Detection has been added to the FX's brilliant Around-View Monitor system, as well. The updated FX goes on sale in July with the 2013 EX following in August.

In other news, Infiniti has announced that it will no longer offer the entry-level G25 sedan – powered by a 2.5-liter V6 and able to achieve up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway – leaving only the G37 and IPL G to fill out the range. The short-lived G25 will still remain on sale through December of this year.

There is no information on that.

IMHO I think it'll be around 2015. The current generation bowed in 2009, so I'd imagine a 6 year product cycle if their other models indicate Infiniti product life cycles

Surprised the G25 is being dumped. Most people who've bought it around here could care less about hp. Same with the IS250 for the most part. These cars populate college campuses and business offices. If the same base engine formula works for Lexus, why isn't it working for Infiniti? Too little volume on the G to begin with?

For me, it's the interior personally. Even if a car in that class isn't necessarily fast, it should at least be nice on the inside. I hate the interior of the G25! I'll take the interior of my IS250 any day over that!

I agree Killa, the Lexus interior is a level up. But the G interior design is more or less the same on all G models. So the lack of appeal for the G25 can't be based on interior...

^ True, but at least the G37 models have power/performance you can enjoy.

When you're in a G25 the car isn't that fast and the interior sucks. Lose-Lose

I would blame it on MPG. For 326HP vs 210HP and its only saving 2~3MPG??

Even the ladies in my company choose the G37 over the G25. 10 ou of 10 G in the parking lot are G35/37. I have not yet saw a G25 on the road.

Not surprised... The G25 can't compete with and is way down on power and performance and mileage compared with all of the new direct-injected turbo 4-cylinders that are becoming standard fare across this segment with the Germans. At least Infiniti is smart and recognizes this and discontinues. I'm guessing they'll probably come out with a Benz sourced turbo-4 in place of a VQ25. There was talk of that a few years ago.

Yeah the next batch of INfiniti's will be Benz/Renautl mash-ups to save on costs. I said from day 1 the G25's biggest issue was the G37. The G37is one of the best bargains around and still leases very attractively. Then I think the G25 could not be had with NAV which was puzzling.

I still can't believe they debuted the JX with the old 3.5 but since most people aren't enthusiasts and don't seem to care the car is selling well with tepid performance. Good logical bump for the other SUVs.

Still 4 SUVs....that is just crazy to me for such a small luxury brand.

The fact that you couldn't get navigation on the G25 was also a miss for this car

All they really need to do is change the 35 to a 37, new plastc engine cover, tweak the intake and exhaust, and they just satisfied all the whiners who lurk on the forums, and the JX is the new money maker, why put a more expensive engine in it, the 3.5 that is in the JX is fine, lets make it faster cause its needs to satisfy the demands of people who will never buy one

I'm not surprised the G25 is discontinued everytime I saw one roaming around it was a loaner car , I don't think they even really advertised that it existed. I'm surprised by the upgrade of the EX to 3.7 considering I rarely ever see one.
