How about a Ford Fusion Hybrid?

- 40 MPG in a conventionally shaped mid-size sedan
- One of the most reliable cars you can buy (believe it or not)
- Sportier than Prius
- You may find it more comfortable too

How much are you losing on resale/depreciation/trade? Does the gas savings justify the trade?

Ditto on the Fusion Hybrid. Also consider Camry Hybrid or Highlander Hybrid.

I think OP is looking for a less standout DD that won't get punched by a random act of jealousy.

Tons of middle of the pack economy cars with great mileage. . . but if you can afford to swap out cars like that, as well as to afford an LX, you can afford some nice luxury cars. . . maybe an RX or something like that. A BMW 330 can get 30MPG on the highway. . . and then there are the diesel variants too. But something like an Infiniti M, BMW 530, GS350, E350 seems to be about the right fit, basing it off pure speculation of your personality, unless your maxed out on loans on payments. Please, for the love of God, do not buy an X6 or 550GT or Acura ZDX.

Thumbs down

Always like the Fusion, but stayed away from Ford becasue of reliability issues. Have you guys noticed you never see a older mustang/Ford anymore or atleast i dont, i see the new ones or the ones which are about 3 yrs old. I see older SUVs and trucks. Maybe its changed now. I know my Gf used to have a Mariner she bought it brand new after 18k miles it had crazy rattles.

I put alot of miles in my car, maybe not as much as some people here, but about 2500/3000 a month which last month 90% went on Prius-

Yes i didnt want a car to stand out as much, my friends ISF the USB color has been keyed the whole right side, from front fender to rear tailights while he was getting food at Red robin's.

I am one of those people who park their cars far away even while shopping at acme or pathmark and when i come back there is always a crappy car parked next to me so close that i cant even get in. I think that happens with most of us.

Is it true that Prius achieves maximum fuel economy in the left lane at 10-15 mph below the speed limit?

Parallel-type hybrids (of which the Prius is one) usually get their best mileage in city-driving conditions, where the electric motor carries more of the load. On the highway, left-lane or not, the gas-engine usually cuts in more to keep the battery-pack charged.

Have to agree there, i get the best milegae in City around 50+ but thats's if barely touch/push the gas have seen old people in Buick passing me. Normal city driving its around 41-40MPG.

My driving is 60% is highway and i get around 38MPG or 40 becasue i dont drive slow, i am probably the fastest Prius out there.. sometime i even try to trun hard without braking thinking i am in ISF then almost everyday i think i will get in a crash when i try to merege or pass anyone.. because its slow

I did have a loner HS for almost 3 days and i will getting around low 30 MPG in that with similar driving conditions but seats were definitely more comfortable and the car looked much better then Prius.

i think the ES350 is much better car? i always get that when i get my cars serviced and was getting 30MPG in highway and high 20s in city? so es350 a much better car for DD?

Have you consider to swap out the driver seat in the Prius? If you save $300~$350 on gas per month and plan to save more with the prius, I'd suggest to purchase an aftermarket driver seat that comforts your back pain problem.

Give the car another month and take note of your daily impressions. At the end of a month, take stock and decide if you want to stick with it or find a replacement. If you decide you want to find a replacement, take a month to evaluate alternatives. Don't buy anything during that month, just research and test drive various cars. At the end of the second month, pick 1 to 3 of your alternatives or decide to keep the Prius. If you decide to buy something, then start shopping and dealing for a car you really want.

Prius is perfect DD car... I loved mine. You just realize what it is and enjoy it for that... '10 is generally much better in every category and I would be overall be very happy with it as my DD.
