What do the previous GTR look like, I know they are not in this country but the R34 should be a good reference

This is just what i heard. Numbers might not be that accurate, but the concept of the breaks messing up and the repair fee being astronomical is still the same.
Brakes are not cheap, when the GTR was new it was looked at as a more attainable average joe car, it was relatively inexpensive to cars it could keep up with, but with some time, more options are available and cost of brake jobs have dropped considerable, the GTR is no different then any car, you need to either know what your doing or take it to a outside shop for brakes

Look at the cost of brakes on any car, I have seen people trade in BMWs cause they needed a full brake replacement

IIRC, a car magazine reported that they paid $7,7000 for a brake job around 20,000 miles. That's the most I've heard of. According to GTR forums, $4000 is the lowest I've heard. Still, $4000-$7700 for a brake job! For reference, I recently paid about $1000 for my ISF using Carbotech pads and Lexus rotors and I thought that was on the high side.

Edit:

Automobile Magazine paid $7700 for their brake job.

Well you need to compare the price to other exotics. My neighbor has a Ferrari 599 and complained about the price for a brake job. Although I didn't ask for the specifics at the time, I looked it up after and it makes $7700 sound like a deal for the GTR.

brake job for that GTR consisted of replacing the calipers, pads and rotors I believe.

A GT-R is not an exotic, sorry. It's mass-assembled at the same factory as other Nissan models are built. Yes the GT-R can be considered a supercar, but not an exotic.

Comparing the brake job cost of a 599 to a GT-R is silly. A 599 costs several times more than a GT-R, so any logical person would expect a brake job to cost more on the 599.

The problem with the GT-R's brake job cost is that it is MUCH more expensive than other cars at a similar price. For a car with an 84K MSRP, the brake job cost is simply too expensive, no matter the performance that it offers. Furthermore, you have to consider the type of brakes the GT-R uses. The GT-R has regular steel brakes, they're not even carbon fiber brakes. Paying $7700 for a brake job for steel brakes on a 84K MSRP car is ridiculous. That makes the cost of a single brake job 9% of the GT-R's MSRP!

I'm fairly confident a 911 Turbo brake job costs less. I bet even a brake job for a Corvette ZR-1, which has a higher MSRP and carbon-ceramic brakes would cost less than a GT-R job.

One more thing to consider is that with carbon ceramic brakes, you need brake jobs a lot less often than with steel brakes. Carbon ceramic brakes last much longer. With this in mind, I am confident that the average cost of a brake job for the ZR-1 is less than the average cost of a GT-R brake job.

Whats disappointing besides the fact that the break job costs $7,000, is the fact that they need to be fixed after a few thousand miles. Really now, you would expect the car's breaks to last much longer than that.

I wonder if this problem will be fixed with this new GT-R, if it does, than I don't find a problem buying one...used, of course.

Brake parts from Nissan are $1000 for a rotor, $4000 total, and about $650 for front pads and 450 for read pads, thats 5100 not including labor, tax or extra parts for a brake job.

Several other forums I frequent have GTR owners who have gotten aftermarket front and rear rotors for 750-1200 for a front set (2) and the same for a rear set, and brake pads run 225 a set give or take, you can even get them as cheap as 140 bucks from certain sites.

I don't know whats the deal with the price of the brake job on the GTR, but are the GTR brakes an odd size, as well as it's still a limited amount of them on the road.

Guess the 60-0 in 3.5 seconds does a job on the brakes

What I don't get is why Nissan would advertise the new features of the 2012 model so early. Seems like that would kill the sales of the 2011 which has only recently gone on sale.

The R35 is indeed a force to be reckoned with indeed (heck, I was even shocked when Nissan announced that the improvements and upgrades have allowed a 0-100 km/h time of less than three seconds). So yeah, power up, torque up, weight down = better than ever
