Arrow BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics (VED) concept approved for production

Just posted up at Bimmerpost.com

German AMS reports that BMW's board of directors has decided to green-light the Vision Efficient Dynamics for production at the Leipzig plant. According to this report, the VED is scheduled to hit the market in 2013 using a regular combustion engine. The drivetrain concept shown at last year's unveiling of the VED (1.5l Diesel engine + two e-motors) is said to follow later. In other news, this report also mentions that the Leipzig plant is said to produce the new entry level BMW car.

Arrow BMW Hybrid Sports Car confirmed to be produced based on VisionefficientDynamics

Via Bimmerpost.com

It's officially official! The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics plug-in hybrid sports car production has been announced by BMW! The 2+2-seater will feature the futuristic BMW styling language, geared consistently towards aesthetic appeal and dynamic performance. Wing doors facilitate entry to both rows of seats, while extensive aerodynamic measures reduce the drag coefficient to 0.22. The combination of a 3-cylinder turbo diesel with a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle enables an overall system output of 241 kW/328 bhp. The innovative design of the BMW ActiveHybrid technology allows performance figures at the level of a sports car, with just 4.8 seconds required for the sprint from zero to 100 km/h - with an average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle (KV01) of 3.76 litters/100 kilometers, equal to 75.1 mpg imp, and a CO2 emission rating of 99 grams per kilometer (1,3 l/100km and 33g CO2/km; EU-PHEV ECE-R101).

BMW has put an unofficial price tag on the upcoming Vision EfficientDynamics of no more than £150,000 (€176,624 / $235,000), according to Inside Line.

Ian Robertson, sales and marketing chief at BMW Group, told Inside Line at the launch of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe recently that the diesel-hybrid supercar's price would not exceed that amount when it makes its market debut in the spring of 2013.

That price makes the model competitive with the $250,000 (£160,000 / €187,000) upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLS E-Cell, which will be one of its main rivals.

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics comes with a 3-cylinder diesel engine coupled to 'hybrid synchronous' electric motor at the front and another electric motor on the rear axle. Total output is 328 PS (241 kW / 323 bhp) and the 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes just 4.8 seconds. Consumption on the EU test cycle comes in at 3.76 liters/100 km (62.5 mpg US) and CO2 emissions are 99 g/km.

The model, which may come to be called the i100 or the i1, has a range of 50 km (31 miles) on electric power alone and a total range of 700 km (434 miles) with the 24 liter tank feeding the diesel unit.
