* Steady progress in rebuilding sales one year after launch of new GM
* Calendar-year-to-date sales for GM’s four brands up 31 percent
* Tenth month in a row that GM’s four brands have increased retail and total sales
* Strong Buick and Cadillac sales show balance of GM brand portfolio
DETROIT – July sales for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac increased by a combined 25 percent to 199,432 units. Buick and Cadillac brands each sold more than twice as many vehicles in July, compared with the same month a year ago.

July marks the 10th straight month in which total and retail sales for GM’s brands increased year-over-year, demonstrating the continued strengthening of each brand in the marketplace as GM continues to rebuild momentum a year after its launch as a new company.

“When we say we want to design, build and sell the world’s best vehicles, we’re not talking about just one vehicle, one brand, or one month,” said Don Johnson, vice president, U.S. Sales Operations. “Our July results again reflect that each of our brands has contributed significantly to our gains.

“The size and scope of the U.S. market demands a strong portfolio of well-targeted brands,”
Johnson said. “The success of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac month in and month out, indicates that the new GM’s brand strategy is sound.”

Buick sold 16,799 vehicles in July, a 137-percent increase over last year. Cadillac delivered 14,919 units, up 142 percent over July last year. These are the highest sales totals for the two brands since August 2008. Chevrolet total sales in July increased 12 percent compared to July last year, and GMC total sales were up 27 percent compared with the same month last year.

GM’s newest vehicles including Chevrolet Camaro and Equinox, Buick LaCrosse and Regal, GMC Terrain, and Cadillac SRX, CTS Coupe and CTS Wagon continue to contribute significant sales gains. Total combined sales for these vehicles were up 77 percent in July and are up 211 percent yeartodate.

GM further strengthened its position as the industry leader in crossover sales. Total combined sales in July for the Chevrolet Equinox, HHR and Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Terrain and Acadia, and Cadillac SRX increased 41 percent in July and have risen 73 percent so far this year.

Combined total sales for GM’s full-size pickups, the Chevrolet Silverado and Avalanche, and the GMC Sierra, were up 22 percent during the month, with year-to-date sales 14 percent higher than a year ago.

Year-To-Date Gains Reflect Balanced Contribution of Brands

Year-to-date total sales for GM’s four brands have risen 31 percent to 1,269,009 units, while retail sales for GM’s brands have risen 18 percent – outpacing the industry.

“Our four brands have sold 125,210 more vehicles this year than our former company sold with eight brands during the same period last year,” Johnson said. “This gain has been a result of solid consumer demand across our lineup of cars, trucks, and crossovers.”

Chevrolet has led the increase with total sales 28 percent higher through July, compared to 2009. Retail sales for Chevrolet have increased 12 percent for the year, propelled by the strong retail sales of the Chevrolet Malibu, Camaro, Silverado, Equinox, and Traverse, which are up a combined 33 percent for the year.

Buick remains one of the industry’s fastest-growing brands, with total sales 60 percent higher than 2009 through July. In the first 7 months of the year, retail sales of Buicks have increased 41 percent on the strength of LaCrosse and Enclave which are up 175 and 14 percent, respectively.

GMC total sales through July are 28 percent higher than 2009. The brand’s retail sales have increased 30 percent yeartodate on the strength of the GMC Terrain, Sierra and Acadia – up 326 percent, 13 percent and 21 percent respectively.

Total sales for Cadillac are up 46 percent for the year through July. Retail sales for the brand are 32 percent higher this year, with the all-new Cadillac SRX surging 487 percent – leading it to gain the most market share in the luxury crossover segment so far this year.

Month-end dealer inventory in the U.S. stood at about 424,000 units, which is about 15,000 units below June 2010, and about 43,000 lower than July 2009.
July Key Facts and Brand Results:

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 3, 2010 – Ford’s newest vehicles helped the company continue to grow as Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers delivered 166,092 new vehicles in July – a 5% increase versus a year ago, when “Cash for Clunker” sales started to surge.

Year-to-date sales totaled 1.12 million, up 24%, with growth across Ford’s full family of cars (up 21%), utilities (up 19%) and trucks (up 32%).

“Customers are rewarding Ford for providing the performance they want and the fuel economy they need,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “New class-leading powertrains are the ‘secret weapon’ in every new product we are bringing to market."

The Ford Fiesta, which offers 40 miles per gallon EPA highway fuel economy, eclipsed 3,000 sales in its second month in America and has been well-received by California customers. Highly acclaimed in Europe, Asia, and North America, the Fiesta is the first car developed under the ONE Ford global product development system.

Sales for the 2011 F-Series Super Duty were 63% higher than a year ago, capturing more than 50 percent of the heavy duty pickup segment. Ford announced today it will begin production of the most powerful diesel engine ever installed in a heavy-duty pickup (best-in-class 800 lb.-ft. of torque and 400 horsepower). In addition, the Super Duty’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel will provide improved fuel economy – a full 20% better fuel efficiency than the 2010 model.

“In an industry-first customer loyalty program, Ford will provide the power upgrades free of charge to all current owners of a 2011 Super Duty diesel pickup,”
said Czubay.

Retail sales for the Mustang were 43% higher than a year ago. Since the arrival of the 2011 model featuring new V-6 and V-8 engines with more horsepower and improved fuel economy, Mustang’s share has climbed to levels not seen since January 2009.

“With our broad range of products – from Fiesta to Super Duty – Ford is connecting with consumers,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Ford and its dealers continue to offer customers the strongest value proposition in the industry – class-leading fuel economy, quality and growing resale values.”

In July, Ford retail sales were up 5% versus a year ago, and Ford appears to have gained retail market share for the 21st time in the last 22 months. Fleet sales were up 2%, reflecting higher sales of Ford’s hard-working trucks to commercial customers.

Audi Reports 22% Increase in July Year-Over-Year U.S. Sales; Brand on Track to Set Sales Record in 2010

HERNDON, Va., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi today reported strong July 2010 U.S. sales leading into a promising second-half of the year. Following its previous best first-half results of any year, Audi maintained its momentum as July 2010 sales of cars and SUVs increased 22% compared to July 2009. The July 2010 results indicate the German luxury automaker is on track to set a vehicle sales record by year-end.
For the month, Audi recorded 7,817 sales compared to 6,407 in July 2009. The July 2010 results were buoyed by the continued extraordinary public response by year-over-year sales increases in the Audi Q5 crossover, Audi A5 coupe and cabriolet models and the Audi A6 luxury sedan. In July 2010, Audi sold 1,930 Q5 vehicles, nearly 89% more than the 1,023 vehicles sold in July 2009. Demand for the A6 continued its positive arc with a 21.3% gain in July 2010 sales compared to July 2009.
Audi A3 sales jumped 26.6% from a year earlier. That gain was largely due to a strong consumer demand for the Audi A3 TDI®, which is the reigning 2010 Green Car of the Year. TDI clean diesel demand continued to outpace expectations as inventory remains low for the Audi A3 TDI model. Another positive product story for Audi came from sales of the Q7 line which increased 16.2% over last July.
"It is clear that Audi is continuing to gain momentum in the luxury vehicle market," said Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen. "Despite supply restrictions, we are confident that 2010 will leave Audi in the best position for yearly performance we have ever enjoyed in the U.S. market."

"Although July sales declined versus last year, our sales increased compared to June 2010, which is a positive sign."

Acura Division posted July sales of 13,017, an increase of 44.7 percent versus July 2009, and year-to-date sales of 74,134, an increase of 24.1 percent. The "all-new" Avalon, eh Toyota?

PS, when are they updating the Highlander? That thing needs a 6AT and updated HSD.

Sad for Acura that the TL is just barely outselling the 5 year old IS, and getting dominated by the 4 year old ES.

Chrysler Group LLC today reported U.S. sales of 93,313, a 5 percent increase compared with sales in July 2009 (88,900 units). July represents the 4th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases.

"The all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is drawing customers into our showrooms, setting the pace and standard for our company, and generating positive reviews both nationally and internationally,"
said Fred Diaz, President and Chief Executive Officer - Ram Truck Brand and Lead Executive for U.S. Sales. "We're gaining some real traction with the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, and we look forward to the same when we revamp the remaining 75 percent of our nameplates by year end."

Chrysler Group finished the month with a 55-day supply of inventory (191,000 units). U.S. industry sales figures for July are projected at an estimated 11.6 SAAR.

The all-new 2011 Jeep® Grand Cherokee is arriving in dealerships in greater numbers. Chrysler Group - at the end of this month - will begin to reveal the rest of its 16 all-new or significantly refreshed vehicles. This aggressive, steady cadence of new vehicles will continue through the remainder of this year.

July 2010 U.S. Sales Highlights by Brand

Jeep Brand

The Jeep Brand posted a 19% year-over-year increase in July as the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee arrived in dealerships in greater numbers. Jeep Grand Cherokee sales were up 54% in July, versus July 2009, and were up 86% compared with last month, as the all-new Grand Cherokee resonates with consumers and continues to generate positive reviews in the media. The iconic Jeep Wrangler had a triple digit percentage increase in sales during July. Jeep Liberty also had a strong month as sales increased 70%. Women drivers ranked Jeep dealers No. 2 overall in Women-Drivers.com's report of Top Auto Brands. Women rated dealers on their experience during vehicle purchase, while just browsing and having their vehicles serviced.

Dodge Brand

Dodge Challenger sales were up 317 percent in July, compared to the same month in 2009. Dodge Challenger's July 2 return to NASCAR Nationwide Series' competition racing, after more than a 30-year absence, has generated mounting consumer interest in the vehicle. Challenger also shared the top spot in the "Specialty Coupe" category in Strategic Vision Inc.'s 2010 Total Quality Index study, which measures the complete ownership experience. Dodge Charger sales also increased by a triple digit percentage during July. The 3 new Dodge Nitro lifestyle models - Detonator, Heat and Shock - continue to drive Dodge Nitro sales, up 96% in July. The Dodge Journey crossover also did well, driven in part by the popularity of the all-wheel-drive model, with sales up 11% in July.

Ram Brand

The Ram Brand posted an 11% year-over-year increase in July, compared to the same month in 2009. Ram pickup truck sales increased 14% in July, fueled in part by the success of the Ram Heavy Duty, Motor Trend's 2010 Truck of the Year. Ram Heavy Duty sales were up 89 percent in July, with the Crew Cab and Quad Cab models being the most popular choices. Dodge Dakota sales were up 49% in July, while sales of Ram Cab Chassis, redesigned for 2011, had its best sales month ever in July.

Chrysler Brand

Chrysler Town & Country, winner this year of the ninth-consecutive R.L. Polk & Co.'s "Automotive Loyalty Award" in the minivan segment, posted a sales increase of 18% in July. Chrysler Sebring sedan and convertible sales were up a combined 11%.

Hyundai Motor America today announced sales of 54,106 vehicles in July, a 19% increase compared with the same period a year ago. This represents an all-time sales record for the month of July and marks only the 4th time Hyundai has surpassed 50,000 units in a month. The all-new Sonata produced at the company's plant in Montgomery, Alabama, continued selling at a record pace, while its stable mate Tucson saw sales soar more than 200% for the 4th month in a row.

Year to date, Hyundai sales are up 24% versus 2009, a performance that represents an all-time record for the 1st 7months of any year.

"Although consumer confidence has dipped for a 2nd month in a row, Hyundai continues to buck this trend,"
said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's vice president of national sales. "Consumer demand continues to significantly out-strip product availability at Hyundai dealerships. We remain very bullish about our prospects for the 2nd half of this year as we substantially increase production to improve vehicle supply while launching four new products over the next five months."

On a year-over-year basis, Elantra, Sonata and Tucson sales increased 34, 33 and 234%, respectively. Genesis sales continued at a brisk pace thanks in part to its mid-luxury segment-leading 53% residual value, exceeding such strong competitors as BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz S Class, Infiniti M37 and Lexus GS.
