It won't be rare, the iPad is flying off shelves. Hell Lexus has a website designed just for the iPad as do others.

Its a neat idea but simply a gimmick. No one is going to buy this car.

No, there will be buyers, the financially and mentally challenged that want to spend $50K+ for a Hyundai. Yes, it's snobish to say that this car is not worth it, but say a Lexus is worth $50K, but it's true.

The Genesis is somewhat successful in that it's a slight jump of about $10K to go from a loaded Accord or Camry to the Genesis and you get so much more, so the family sedan buyer might take the leap.

Who is the Equus going to go after? The Acura buyer possibly, if even... Lexus owners are not cross shopping to drive this Hyundai. BMW and MB owners probably wouldn't even drive within 5 miles of a Hyundai dealership. What middle ground is there really between the family sedan owner and the "snobby" luxury car owners?

The only thing this car has going for it, is that it won't have a "H" badge anywhere on it, so maybe someone will accidentally guy it thinking it's a real luxury make.

But then you make it look like a failure that needed massive discounts. Price it at $50K and discount about $4K more, then you are priced $10K more than a V8 Genesis and $13-15K less than a LS460L. That's where their sweet spot is.

Maybe next year they will give away a Sonata with every purchase.

Nah its just forward thinking on their part. People open checking accounts for free junk, no one is motivated to buy cars just to get free electronics no matter what brand it is.
If BMW, MBZ or Lexus offered a free Iphone4 with the purchase of one of their new cars the masses will not go running to buy one if they're not in the market, come on folks you know this.

Whether or not the car itself will sell, I don't have a clue, nor will I speculate.

As for the iPad...... I think it's a great idea. A little gimmick? Maybe, but a great idea non the less. It shows progressive thinking.

If Hyundai thinks out the app well, it could be quite useful. The owners manual could be constantly updated for everything from typo's to recall issues. Owners could use it to track service intervals, track gas milage, or anything else. Heck, if they put a dock in the car, it might even be able to tell the owner if an oil change is needed based on the actual milage of the vehicle, or what the check engine light means. Or even simply transferring songs and playlists directly to the entertainment system.

Will the iPad itself be reason enough for people to buy the Equus? Of course not. But it shows the willingness to embrace and incorporate new ideas.
