IMPRESSIVE is not strong enough a word, or any other adjective in what you are doing yourself!!!!
Well thank you very much, I appreciate that. I must say I am not boldly going where no man has gone before although few Porsche dealers have. After working for Carroll Shelby & Steve Saleen for 5 years I discovered their "secret" was to "find a way" to win.
I'm betting the same thing Lobux & wagering current market value of the car!
Quick question - are you removing all the oil galley plugs, including the pressed in types, and scrubbing the galleys with a stainless round brush? It's HUGELY worth it especially when you're putting in new expensive bits. I learned my lesson years ago with a set of cams I scored on start up because I failed to remove the pressed in ball on one end of the galley in the head. Ensuring the galleys are scrupulously clean will dramatically enhance service life.
You can replace the ***** with threaded plugs. We typically used aluminum plugs - just tap the hole left after the ball is removed and install the plug with Loctite (blue or red, your choice...)
Good question, I have done that on previous rebuilds but Porsche's have a 2- piece crankcase with all oil passages cast in & I have not seen any plugs but I have not done final preassembly cleaning. I am fitting rings today. I washed 1 case half in the dishwasher but it left a phospate looking coating on it. Any idea how to get that off? Brake clean doesn't do much good.
You used dishwasher soap on it or Simple Green? Try very hot water. Not much else works well. Superclean might work, but it will definitely change the aluminum from all the lye in it. I've learned to be cautious with alkalies and aluminum anything.
Did you try just running the dishwasher with no soap at all for a second pass?
I really like a hot water clean up too. Way better than solvents - gets the oil/grease and the dirt both. I always do final clean with hot water. I put hand tools in the dishwasher too...works like a charm.

I used Simple Green & water to clean it first, this works good but greys aluminum if it soaks over an hour. When it came back from sleeve installer I ran it thru dishwasher with Cascade powder 6% phospate that turned it grey. I guess I'll try max hot no soap.
Crankshaft carrier housing & Intermediate Main Shaft (IMS) assembled with new & improved IMS bearing & billet flange ready to install in 1st crankcase half.
You must be getting anxious to get this thing started and on the road. Heck, I'M anxious for you!
I'm sure you know the feeling. Being somewhat of a lobuxracer myself I amaze myself daily with my uncharacteristic patience & refusal to hurry in view of the financial penalty for mistakes. It's getting close & my registration expires at the end of the month & I have to pass a smog check to renew it!
