Saw a BMW 550i GT today
I've seen a couple around ATL, all have been Black or dark colors, with rims and dark tint, I think the car looks good, I think in this segment of niche vehicles, people with money want something unique, and I hope BMW is not rolling these things off the line thinking they will sell like a regular 528.
With expensive cars I have found you can easily accept the car, if it drives like a beast, but if it's slow then ugly is all it will ever be

Agreed with most. I don't know what this trend is towards this body style. First the X6, then the 550GT. Acura and Honda has jumped on the bandwagon. I really think this design is really ugly. I think the Panamera fits this overall design, too.
Acura has jumped on the bandwagon. Their ZDX commercial with the sexy woman was filmed right here in trend setting NYC. The 550GT's target audience, like that of the X6 & ZDX, are metrosexuals. Soccer moms taking care of Billy are not the target.
I don't think the X6 and 5GT are that bad anymore. I think they're unique which is good given that so many cars started to look very generic.
I agree they're not for everyone but if I were such a person that might need to put things in my vehicle and I didn't have a Rover, I would consider the X6 and 5GT; but perhaps there lies the problem, those that may be alright with their looks always have other options or the vehicle isn't really appropriate for them.

1) Stick a BMW badge on it and I will buy anything
2) I'm blind and got sold this BMW
3) I couldn't decide between a sedan and a SUV so I bought this instead
There are much better statement cars at the price point
That deep discounting just shows that the X6, like many upper-level BMW products, is simply overpriced to begin with. Yes, that includes the 550 GT. The 550 GT is a superb car (if you can get over the awkward, Honda-Crosstour-like rear end), but not, IMO, worth 70K +.

That is being nice to say the least.
