Sportier and sleeker, while keeping its iconic stature.

It's gonna be well received, but I don't think it's going to change market perceptions/stereotypes.

And any increased demand for the car will be offset by its increased price. I will most likely sell in similar numbers after the hype softens...

Only way I'd ever like this car is if they copied the original beetles body-lines. That car had something which stood out. And when done up right, it looked plain badass:

Like I told Mike above, they did seem, IMO, to do a (slightly, at least) better job on the retro-lines of this model than on the last one in 1998.

It's a nice evolution for the vehicle and I definitely agree more masculine then before. Not something I would purchase, but I'm sure they'll sell plenty of them.

BTW in 1998 it was introduced as "The New Beetle" so will this one be "The New New Beetle"

Of course, and it is a step in the right direction. But these new cars just scream 'cheap' to me. I look at the old beetle and the body-lines are smooth and sexy, I look at the new ones, and it looks like cheap plastic cutouts.

Part of that is just the way most cars are designed and built nowadays. In general, there's a lot less metal and a lot more plastic, especially with the interiors, than back in the days of the air-cooled Beetle.

Like many enthusiasts I don't take these "new Beetles" seriously. I think the cartoonish style and non-functional/retro/contrived styling degrades the car when compared to the car it was derived.

Of course I do recognize the improvement over the last gen "new Beetle", but not a car I would consider or recommend. But I do understand that people have different automotive tastes and requirements, so for some it's a hit.

Guess plastic panels help make a car lighter so they can jam pack safety features inside the car to offset the weight savings?

I don't see the all important flower holder in this new model.

^ Current/old model.

By now, that holder is just a gimmick that has lost its novelty. Besides, they are probably trying to make the car more attractive to males. I myself don't necessarily agree with the Beetle's female-stereotype, but it is a fact that more women than men buy them.

I like the new lines. I think they tried to make it a bit more appealing to male drivers. Probably still not enough for me

Nice exterior, nice design for the tail lights though.

Waiting for the price now. One thing is for sure, its nicer than the previous gen (current gen)
