2011 Elantra will debut this year at LA sale in late fall. Base engine is said to be a 152 hp 1.6-L GDI, while the top of the line engine is a 1.6-L GDI turbo with about 175 hp. Mileage on the base car is set to be over 40+ MPG highway ready to be the class leader.

Mini Sonata? Anything is better than the current one, they are so unremarkable I can't even remember seeing one.

40 MPG is a huge selling point here, hell that is Civic Hybrid territory.

Not a fan of the side character line and sculpting. Looks like a mini-Sonata. Overall not a big fan of Hyundai's new styling.

The car does have a nice stance though.

Looks like we can see the lower-end/base interior and a higher-end interior. Not a fan of the interior design either. Odd placing of the air vents in the center stack.

This is now the 3rd next-gen compact car to be rumored to achieve 40+ mpg highway. The Chevy Cruze, the next-gen Elantra, and the Fiesta are all said to achieve at least 40 mph highway.

I will believe it when I see it.

that's Cruze's press release. it says up to 40mpg. that's not a rumor. that's Chevy's word. i have no reason to doubt them.

Given this, Honda and Toyota really need to step it up with the next-gen Civic and next-gen Corolla.

In Toyota's case, they desperately need to add a 6-speed transmission, Valvematic and/or direct injection on the base Corolla engine to achieve 40+ mpg on the next-gen model.

In Honda's case, they need to implement a 6-speed transmission along with their long-delayed A-VTEC system in order to get the Civic's highway mpg at or over 40.

rear high trunk lid reminds me of either a mazda 3 or the TSX. I dont like the shoulder line nor the small rear window.

This should be another hit from Hyundai, but I'll still take my Euro Focus over anything in this segment thank you very much!

Hyundai is redesigning their cars at the quickest rate. They're quite serious. Seems like the current one just came out.

They cannot keep up this pace forever without consequences.

May be true but so far their quality is progressing just as fast as their redesigns.

For some reason that center dash looks like love handles. Not a fan.
