The new JDM trend...Dodge vans
it's been going on for a while, but i never knew it was getting that popular to the point I'd see it on ClubLexus...
There's been an hot rod type event called MoonEye in yokohama and they always had a few of those so that's when I started noticing them. It was weird seeing a child molester van w/ custom pinstripe and whatnot...but I did appreciate the work put into those.
This is just a pure speculation but there's a celebrity named George Tokoro. He likes cars (I think American mainly) and started a TV show called "setagaya base". It was a really random show, I don't even remember it being on at a regular basis. Anywho, this weird show was all about Tokoro-san's hobbies/ideas/other random things on a TV show...mainly cars, bikes, clothing, DIY stuff, etc he was into. Then he started doing a magazine of it show casing his garage, cars, bikes, etc he had... It's really hard to explain in words so some youtube...

his Cobra, you can kinda see his Dodge van for a second.

1/4 scale RC car with a dry sump OHV lawn mower engine.

him showing his random tools...like a big *** tape measure.
So yeah, I can see how that could have sparked a whole new subculture beyond just cars.
NOT saying that's the origin, but just an insight.
