Default BMW X1 and Audi A4 Allroad side by side

I had no idea the X1 was that small, and that low to the ground. Interesting crop of new vehicles that look like SUV's, yet are no taller or higher than some sedans or wagons.

I've always liked the All-Road and its versatile capabilities. It is, in effect, a more expensive, more sophisticated, and more plush, though somewhat less-reliable Subaru Outback.

Though I could be wrong, I don't see much of a market for the X1 in the U.S. Most people in the market for smaller, car-based SUVs that size are going to buy the less-expensive Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV-4, Nissan Rogue, or Mitsubishi Outlander, rather than spend BMW kind of money. I do think, however, that it will probably outsell the X6.

Is there some internal design competition to build the ugliest vehicle and see who will buy them most we don't know about?

The roads r now littered with so many new ugly vehicles it hurts my head seeing them all.

Two interesting cars. More choices is always good. What would be even better is if we knew for sure they would be offered here in the US

Why, the Audi looks great for a wagon, IMO.

Allroads never sold well... X1 will sell in Europe as in price, lowest versions are reaching Rav4 prices.

The X1 is hideous IMHO. I would take the Audi over the BMW any day... The Audi doesn't look half bad at all though.

The A4 allraod is basically a loaded A4 Advant with a few extra euro options. That baby X6 is one ugly car or SUV or what ever it is. I am not sure why these manufactuers are pushing these type of vehicles into the markey such as X6 X1 and ZDX. There is oboviously no market for them and yet they keep designing new ones. Are they hoping that we will get use to the ugly design or are they simply trying to set a design trend that no customer wants to follow.
BTW, is anybody sure that Chris Bangle is still not desiging cars for BMW?

Lexus's latest cars look pretty ugly IMO. The new HS and GX are pretty bad.

The X1 looks really nice. They're already a daily sight in Stuttgart. A really nice-looking vehicle.

Seeing it in the photos doesn't do it justice. But in real life, up close, it looks fantastic.

Lexus, as far as I'm concerned, has done somw awkward-looking vehicles, too. The 2Gen SC430 is a good example, although it does have a stunning interior.
