The Armada, I believe, is now out of production, and its reliability record has been very poor. It is also quite big, bulky, and ungainly to manuver.

 

Fuel efficient?

 

I have an '04 Pilot, which is smaller than the 2nd Gen. I have never needed to put any adults in the 3rd row, only 5-7 year olds, and it has been perfect.

 

Pilot is another good choice...

 

Test drove the Pilot and Highlander this weekend.

Pilot-good size, poor acceleration was sluggish. 0-60 9.7 sec per edmunds ouch! This thing needs more power for passing and merging purposes.

Highlander- good acceleration, too small in the 3rd row. Pilot much more functional in the 3rd row.

Decision? So im leaning towards toyota Sequoia after test drive. Plenty of power and roomy. Just a little big but ill get used to it.

 

Edmund's numbers are totally wrong. The new Pilot AWD does 60 in 7.9-8.5 seconds. This is according to Autoweek, Car & Driver, and Motor Trend. There really aren't too many modern vehicles that do 0-60 in over 9 seconds, save for a few entry-level, compact cars.
One plus with the Pilot is it runs on regular grade fuel. Not sure about the others being discussed here.

 

If you are leaning towards the Sequoia why not a GX or Land Cruiser. I would take both of those of the Sequoia any day.

The Pilot looks like a 20 year old Jeep Compass on crack cocaine....its horrid..whatever happened to not puking every time you have to walk to your car?

The Highlander looks much better and won't cause your kids to hate your guts for driving that Pilot.

 

The 1st gen Pilot, which we had as a family car (2003 model), is around 7 for 0 to 60 (according to Wikipedia). It never felt like it needed extra power...I don't recall any situation where I felt that it was too slow to accelerate or whatnot. Wish we kept it...as it just worked and never had to have anything repaired.
I'm not a big fan of the new one though.

 

Everyone that wants SUVs to go from 0-60 faster and faster... let's say you could get it going from 0-60 in 6 seconds... how you going to stop it, with the rear bumper of the car ahead of you, or the lamp post? Most SUV's brake systems are carry overs of their sedan counter parts, with about an extra 500-1000 pounds to have to bring to a stop.

I'd recommend the CX-9 as a usable CUV with 3rd row, and Pilot/MDX as a bigger SUV with more room. Sequoia for LARGE SUV, if really necessary.

 

0-60 is not a measure of passing ability, anyway--you don't pass from a dead stop. If you are ruling out SUV's based on 0-60 times, you may want to re-think how you really intend to use this vehicle.
