Getting the Lexus treatment?
Don't take it personally, but i would have reacted the same way, and i'm younger then you are. They don't treat me like that at the dealer because im always there getting oil changes or something of the like, and when they saw me one time, this 16 year old kid paying for a 90k service without anyone else there, they know that when i go there, it isn't for shenannigans haha. Don't take it personally, but its just a natural reaction since they get kids like you walk in all the time with less then good intentions
its not the fact that I'm 17, he didn't know that, he didn't know my age. If I had $50,000 in the bank, he wouldn't have known and I would've never bought a car from him because of how he treated me. I guess it just pisses me off that he treated me like crap when he didn't even know me, and for all he knows, my parents could've been buying the car and maybe I came to look and see what I liked. I didn't ask to test drive it, I wasn't even planning on it, but the fact that he wouldn't even let me get IN to an IS or press the button to lower the top on the ISC is what pissed me off the most.
i guess you have a point.
but then again, he let you see a SOLD ISc right? so he didn't want you messing with someone else's car.
man that sucks, just because your that young doesn't mean that you should be treated like that. they just lost a customer and a possible sale. i had that treatment too when i was in a mitsubishi dealership looking at an Evo. i guess cuz i looked really young and what i was wearing that day. i still ended getting the Evo though. salesmen shouldn't really judge customers by how they look or what they're wearing.
My lexus dealer(Regency Lexus) treated me pretty well right when I walked in by myself. I'm 21.
This other dealership in an auto mall(open road lexus) won't even help you. There were 5 salesmen walking around and no one in the dealership on a weekday. didn't even bother helping me for 20 mins.
I think that entire auto mall has problems. I went to a Nissan dealership...no help, same with Mazda and Toyota, Honda dealership there.
The dealerships I've been to outside of the automall have been pretty damn helpful. The Subaru and Honda dealership greeted me and showed me cars.

I guess when I get out of college with a degree and a good job and have lots of money, I'll go back to the same place, dress like a normal guy, and see if they treat me better. If not, I'll do what someone posted earlier in this thread and go buy the car somewhere else and come back and talk to the manager, that will be nice revenge.
In your situation, I find that it's best to be direct. You never mentioned if you told the sales rep that you're "just browsing", "comparison shopping", or "ready to buy". The sales guy is already going to doubt your buying power - most teenagers are not in the position to buy a luxury car. It's common-sense to assume that he'd rather spend his time with a customer that "fits the profile", so to speak.
Even though it sounds like you got stuck with a below-average sales guy, try to empathize with the situation before you complain to management.

Where do 17/18 year olds get money to buy/own new luxury cars in excess of 40k?? It has to be from the parents sorry... At the above mentioned age, you are yet to make the real bucks in the business world yet alone finish college..
We have a dealer here that shoves the car down your throat and if you say no to the car they act insulted I even saw them watch me leave as they guarded the front corners of the building. Another dealer here sales acts like they are it and they do not care at all. Now there service they bend over backwards to help you. So we buy at Ray Catena and get service at Prestige.
Sales people are just strange animals... very strange animals. Yes, every sales guy/gal should approach every person that comes in as if they can afford it, because heck, you took the effort to even go to the dealership.
I'll give you my sort of "reverse" situation. I took my RX to a local Toyota dealership near work. We're looking for a vehicle that's fuel efficient and has a third row, doesn't need to be fully useable, just for those once in a while things. I drove up and two salesmen saw me drive up, but I walked into the dealership without them even saying a hello. I got into the showroom, there were several people sitting negotiating already and two salesguy just wandering around.
I looked at the RAV4 in the showroom for probably a good five minutes. I sort of enjoyed the quiet time to look around, but in that time, not one single person came over to even ask if I needed help. I saw the car and it was overall, very disappointing so I ended up being glad that noone came over.
Anyway, I finished looking and then walked out to my car, and drove off. Not quite sure what just happened, but thinking these people probably didn't think I was ready to downgrade that far to a Toyota.

In most states, a 17-year-old cannot legally sign a contract anyway (which a car purchase basically is) until he or she is 18. Did you show the salesperson your drivers' license, or any kind of ID, with your age on it, for any reason? (they usually ask for it before a test-drive). If not, then you may have a point....they wouldn't have known your age, except for guessing it.
But, if they knew that you were to young to buy a car on your own (even though 17-year-olds often have drivers' licenses or permits), then that could have explained some of their aloofness.

If two 17 year old kids came into my lexus dealership, i would be reluctant to help you too... And he let you see a SOLD ISC somebody has already paid for it man you cant ask to use it if its already been purchased...
that's what i just said several posts above.
and your sig is f'd up.
it's supposed to be in brackets [][]
He didn't see my license, so he didn't know how old I was, or my friend, so he didn't know if I could sign a contract or not. I didn't ask to see the sold ISC, he offered to show it to me because it was the only one they had. I didn't ask to drive it, I just wanted to see it with the top down to compare it to the IS..
For all he knew, my parents were rich enough to buy me whatever car I wanted so they let me go pick look at what I liked for them to buy it, because honestly, that happens for a lot of the rich kids that live around here.
