Yep. This shows, in the quality of Lexus paint jobs. Among mass-produced cars, for showmanship, they are, IMO, the best. As the video shows, though, they may not be the most durable.
I have to agree. Lexus paint standards are outstanding. While maybe not the best Lexus is on the top.
I agree, Lexus is up there with Porsche paint quality.
I have never really looked at Porsches all that much. But if one really want to see a difference, compare a Lexus to a Toyota. Also, the 4runner benefits from Lexus paint as 4runners are painted alongside Lexus models. There is a real difference, not so much in long term durability but more in the initial quality.
I find Lexus paint to be top notch. For robots painting our cars there is practically no orange peel. From looking at various cars on the street and my drive way, Honda has some horrible orange peel and with orange peel the car doesnt shine as well as a smooth finished car.
Also, Doesnt Lexus robots mimic a professional painter to match each stroke and angle to achieve the best finish possible?
you can't make thicker more chip resistant environ friendly paint?
so, is ford hurting the environment?
It may be more than just environment or EPA rules. More paint means more cost and more weight....which is why the quality of each layer is important.
Paint, of course, is not that heavy, but it weighs more than you think. One coat of paint on an average-sized car may run 10-20 lbs, depending on the paint composition. So, take the primer, anti-corrosion/electrostatic dip, a couple of layers of colored paint, any metallic particles mixed in for Pearl/metallic paint jobs, and one or two layers of clearcoat on top (virtually every carmaker uses clearcoat nowadays), and you easily have 100-150 lbs. added to the car's weight.

This will help to answer your question. It is not the complete segment(entire segment was 10-15 minutes long). Is a clip that was rom the Discovery channel featuring the RX. The same process is used in all of their plants.
