Same thing with the Viper... A chassis with a Fiberglass cover and 1300 HP... so how much power will it take to do it in an IS

It can be done though. There is a Supra that did 246 on the Texas mile and 2 other ones ran 240+

THAT'S CRAZY

Weight matters with top speed but not nearly as much as most people seem to assume. When it comes to the standing mile it will make a significant difference in the first 1/4-mile or so but after that it will make very little difference.

Purely stated, wind resistance and applied power are your two primary factors when it comes to top speed and high speed acceleration. And the IS needs a WHOLE lot more power than it comes with from the factory (even the IS-F), plus it's far from the model citizen when it comes to aerodynamics. I'm not sure about downforce vs lift at high speed but I'm going to guess the IS isn't properly setup from the factory for 200+ mph since there'd be no point to it... it'd only serve to increase drag.

The Car already does 120 mph is in a quarter mile so 200 in a full mile without a gov. shouldn't be that much of a mod. i've had mine to over a 145 over a 3/4 mile bridge. i hit that number way before the bridge ended. because i slowed back down to 60 before i crossed the bridge...

^^^ You're assuming you have enough gearing to hit 200mph. Also, you're generally going to accelerate a lot harder from 0-120 then you would 120-200mph.

I know for a fact that its possible to reach 200mph in a IS. But its gonna cost you quite a few penny to pull it off. If you want to reach that goal, I'd suggest that you contact DRC Motorsport and buy one of their body in white IS GTF shell. They've spent alot of money for aero development as I've seen it personally while they were testing in the wind tunnel. Then for the heart transplant, contact Eric over at TTC performance as he's got something nice (4.7 TT Motor) that will provide you with enough juice to reach the speed that SW's Supra is currently holding. Then, I'd contact KBR performance and find that dude by the name of Andrew Brilliant to work out your vehicle dynamic issues to keep the car stable and safe at that speed... That'll get you started there for now. But I'll give ya a little hint now that with what I suggest right there, you're already looking at around $500k in cost just for that since the body in white and aero parts on the DRC motorsport car is extensively redone in either fiberglass or carbon. Let me know if you need more assistance after you've sourced all that and then if you still wish to continue, I'll get you in contact with a few more to complete the goal....

**Note that SW's car that reached the 246mph standing mile was completed with alot of help from these people above and tons of money.***

You don't need to do anything drastic cosmetically on an IS for 200 mph. It is supposed to be a well built aerodynamic car. Look at this M6 driven by Hans Stuck on the Autobahn (Speed Channel episode).. Drama free..

Remember the Top Gear had an episode with the CTS-V, ZR1, Dodge Challenger on the salt flats trying to reach the 200mph magic # in the mile? You will be fine. Good luck.

The fastest I've ever seen an IS-F time slip was a 116 trap. 109 to 114 is much more common. Where in the world have you seen a stock IS-F hitting a 120 trap??

Look at the link I posted earlier in the thread from Road and Track. The Viper hit a 116 mph trap. It's also more powerful and probably creates less drag than the IS-F and has gearing that's actually capable of hitting 200mph from the factory meaning it's a better candidate for acceleration after the 1/4-mile mark. And what did it trap at the end of the mile? 159.7 mph

40+ mph is an absolute WORLD of difference to make up... and we're already talking about starting with an IS-F and ASSUMING it will be able to trap as fast as a Dodge Viper SRT-10 after 1 mile flat out which I'd be willing to bet is an incorrect assumption. I think the IS-F would be looking at the Viper's tail lights a little ways off in the distance.

DASHOCKER That episode is the one that inspired me to ask this. I think I got the mile fever just looking at it

For the vast majority of people that drive that 2IS, they've never crossed the 150 mph limit so they've never experience lift at higher speed. But I can promise you that with a stock or slightly modified 2IS, the front wheel will lift off of the road at speeds over 170mph. The M6 you're talking about has great aero from the factory. I'm not sure if you've ever inspect the bottom of those cars, but there is diffuser and canards that is carefully integrated into the bumpers to be able to reach those speed. Also note that the OP is trying to reach this speed in a standing mile so aero and vehicle dynamics plays a big role in achieving this goal.

So do you think dropping the car and removing the mirrors will be enough. Maybe adding a front splitter and a rear diffuser would help keep the car on the floor. I know adding any spoilers would be counter productive.

Yeah right, we can't seem to find anybody with an ISx50 that even has enough miles to wear out his stock shocks., let alone fry the motor with mega miles.
