They must all have failing eyesights, seriously I have real problem believing your story, when he is as close to the car where he can grab the handle, he can definitely see the inside, & no one can claim the inside would look remotely the same as the Camry, I will never believe it unless I see it with my own eyes, & even then, I would fault their eyesight, not the looks of the car.
Late 50 year old eye sight, non car enthusiast and somewhat distracted while talking AND walking - not making excuses for the person, and it's not as likely to happen as mistaking a Camry for an ES as mentioned, but it did. And to be honest, we couldn't believe the person did it either. As far as being able to see the rims, in a parking spot with cars on both sides and in front of you while you're probably half paying attention and assume its your car anyway, I doubt they were paying much attention to wheels...
Anyway, I'm not saying it's because the LS looks so much like a Camry, I'm simply stating an event that I witnessed and relating that to those who said they see some of the Camry in LS or vice versa.
I agree with you 100% that the rear end of the S550 is ugly. In fact, I think the whole car itself is not that appealing in all honesty. I much prefer the previous generation S500 over the current one though I can't really say I'm a huge fan of that one either.
LOL I guess it takes all kinds, but I really like the rear of the current S Class. Actually, I think it's a good lookng car overall SO LONG AS it has the upsized "AMG" wheels and corresponding tires. The resulting bolder stance makes a TON of difference, IMO.
Another odd thing I noted when I was test driving and comparing closely is that the standard gray interior without the add-ons (primarily the wood/leather steering wheel) is one of the cheapest looking interiors in ANY luxury class car -- looks like something you'd expect in an Oldsmobile -- yet the black and brown interiors are some of the richest, making even the LS look down market. I found it very strange that MB would release an S with such a bland looking interior -- looks like a sea of dull gray plastic, leather, and carpet that combines to simply look kinda cheap.
