another nice touch... as the final details of the bankruptcy are being put in place, the president goes for a date on broadway which no doubt cost the tax payer millions.

How about George's countless vacations over an 8 year period ??? Lets not go there. Back on topic, it is now time for GM to be more competetive in the global market place. Ford is doing well in this regard and the new GM must follow suit.

The Toyota Camry interior of the same year is no different than that pic.. Government intervention is not a bad thing imo.. The German Government & the BMW group have an excellent relationship..

The BMW Group is in agreement with the direction outlined today by President Obama and his Administration to have the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Transportation;s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) work together toward one national standard for regulating future greenhouse gas emissions and fuel economy.




“The announcement today by President Obama is a major step in the right direction for automotive manufacturers in the United States such as the BMW Group,” said Friedrich Eichiner, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “Consistency of legislation and planning certainty are not only crucial for synchronizing product development and regulatory requirements but also for enabling companies to remain viable, profitable and sustainable.”

With a view to the challenging new targets in the US the BMW Group can build upon its extensive technological expertise and innovative know-how in developing environmentally friendly technologies that have already enabled the company to reduce its carbon output and increase fuel efficiency over the past several years.

In the US, the recent report entitled “Automakers’ Corporate Carbon Burdens” published by the Environmental Defense Fund found that the BMW Group had reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in the US more than any other automotive company between 1990 and 2005.

In Europe, the BMW Group also achieved fuel consumption levels that were the best among any premium auto manufacturer between 1995 and 2008, exceeding the voluntary commitment made by the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers to reduce average CO2-emissions by 25 per cent from 1995 to 2008. Such achievements have enabled the BMW Group to be ranked as the most sustainable automotive company in the world for the past four consecutive years.

Innovative fuel and emission reduction solutions are part of the Efficient Dynamics program of the BMW Group, which is integrated throughout the company?s fleet. Since the spring of 2007 well over one million vehicles incorporating Efficient Dynamics measures have reached customers around the world. The launch of BMW Advanced Diesel this year will deliver further potential for fuel consumption reduction in the US. Later this year, the company will also introduce innovative hybrid systems.

In addition to these efforts, the BMW Group is testing more than 600 electric MINI E vehicles both on the East and West coast of the US as well as in Germany and possibly soon in the UK to gain valuable insight and experience for a series version of an electric vehicle, which is expected to be launched by 2015. This demonstrates the BMW Group’s drive towards sustainable mobility and will help the US Government in its commitment towards a cleaner environment.

If GM hopes to survive. They gotta build em in China,(labor) sell em w/special tax loans when buying domestic cars. $8000 - $10000 off. Give em reason to buy their cars. Become really competive w/their pricing. Get Toyota car designers to pencil their cars & design interiors.
What I don't understand is that their entire plan to run the company doesn't make sense on paper. Their business plan just stinks!! Shame.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Basically the wealth of German taxpayers is spreading so that BMW can subsidize leases on their cars for American consumers, right?

Hey, they gotta make some sort of a payback for the WW2 crimes, right?

BUSINESS PLAN is the key here all... BOT...

The reason GM is bankrupt is because they took in LESS than they spent... you can build the "best product" with the best reliability, styling, etc. etc. etc.... and if you pi$$ away more than you're taking in (ie BAD PLAN), your company won't last either... it took time but it happened

ECON 101
CASH FLOW> COSTS= PROFITS
CASH FLOW< EXPEDITURES= LOSS


LOSS over time not offset by CASH FLOW covering expeditures= eventual company downfall

It's funny GM at one time was the largest company in the whole entire world. They were Fortune 1 at one time and they employed 600,000 people. That day is gone forever and will never come back ever again...Now GM is a big burden to the U.S. taxpayers and if Barry keeps givng GM more money I won't be voting for him again next time...

While I don't blame GWB for GM or Chryslers failings I have said for YEARS on here they should HELP somehow. Help them with technology. Help with tax credits. Maybe an import tax. I am not sure but I WISH they would have helped. yeah it would have cost some taxpayer dollars but it would have not been anything of this magnitude and it would have SAVED jobs.

There is no "free market" there is alway govt intervention. I much rather them have helped in the past then this bailout "too big to fail" policy going around.

I don't see that any of the Presidents/wannabe President (GB/BO/JM) doing anything much different with this GM situation, but of course we can speculate which will digress from having much automotive content.
