My beater is my 2007 Lexus GS350. I think most of us don't have beaters.

My GS400 is my daily... 190k and rolling strong...
its not so much trying to preserve my lexus... but the civic is just more practical for the type of work i do. its less on gas and cheaper in maintenance. I can carry all my supplies and park in tighter spaces, plus i don't have to worry so much about getting banged up on the streets...

The OP suggested that "most" of us don't drive our Lexus daily. Why wouldn't we, and why have a Lexus? And why would you not drive in the rain? Unless we have the intention of keeping it in new condition until it becomes an antique.

I think the reality is that most people use their Lexus either exclusively as their only car or at least most of the time.

I don't drive in rain because I get nervous with a 500hp rear wheel drive car on 30 series rear tires lol. I mean I have lsd and everything but still. Combine that with crazy local drivers that go crazy when it rains and run into any and everything. My car is nowhere near new and will never become an antique. I drive mine on nice days but 50% of my commute is in bumper to bumper traffic and some days I rather just not deal with that. At one point my SC was my daily. I had a very short commute and the car was mostly stock.

Depend on the weather and where we are going. Short trips with nice weather, we take the es. Long trips in snow or heavy rain, we take the lx, but i wouldn't call em beater

I have a 97 Civic EX Coupe that I treat like a real beater, it just keeps on runnin, picked it up a few mo's back for $4000 with 80,000 miles. It looks like its been through hell but still gets 30+ MPG. I park it in places no one with a nice car would dare park, jump curbs to get around people, slam on the brakes if I need to teach someone a lesson, basically having a car you absolutley do not care about is fun for daily driving. Insurance (liability) is only $349 a year with AAA. Can't beat it.

Yes, I do the same with a different car for different purposes.

My IS is my beater! I dont understand the function behind a daily beater. Why not just buy one cheap car if your worried about preserving your car instead of having two cars?

My normal DD is my SC, but for the past 3 weeks i've been out of commission with a blown clutch. Been borrowing my roommates Ford Ranger pickup. A bit of a POS but it gets me around for now. Not very comforting with an ABS light, CEL and a loud clunking in the front end. I'm still alive though. So that's a plus.

Because there are people out there who love automobiles and cannot stand having one mediocre car when they can have X car for daily and Y car for the weekend cruise.

Yep, I used to have 6 cars before my divorce. Because I love cars.
