Default Edmunds: Genesis Coupe 3.8L Track (updated - MT, Auto, C&D tests)

This review isn't particularly positive.

1/4 Mile: 14.5 @ 97.9
Slalom (mph): 68.2
60 - 0 (ft): 111

I was expecting better numbers.

One more spec:

At our test track, the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track hits 60 mph in 6.4 seconds (or 6.1 seconds with 1 foot of rollout as on a drag strip) and goes through the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at 97.9 mph.
Although I really like the Genesis coupe but have to say that's pretty pathetic for a 300+hp sports coupe. The slalom speed is above average but definitely not something to write home about, Edmunds IL achieved 70+ mph with an IS250 before (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=121228).

Oh well, I am more interested in the T4 models anyways...

well they weren't impressed with the braking feel.

I'll wait for another review, but those acceleration numbers are unexpectedly poor for a 306hp engine.

It's a very nice looking car, especially after seeing the other thread on the Genesis coupe and all the modified versions in Asia. But 0-60 times aren't that flash, especially for a 300HP+ vehicle. Neither are the 1/4m times.

Apparently it's not that heavy...

It tips Inside Line's scales at 3,488 pounds versus the 3,549 pounds we quoted for the Korean-market version. The similarly sized Infiniti G37 weighs 3,715, while the Nissan 370Z, which is 15 inches shorter, weighs 3,359 pounds.

Maybe the R-spec will be more serious or maybe someone else will pull better performance out of the Genesis Coupe but based on this you can forget about molesting G37s and 370Zs. More like Accord and Altima coupes in your radar.

It's edmunds, therefore not a reliable source

I'm willing to bet environmental conditions had something to do with it. Remember when the IS350 came out and it ran a measily low to mid 14s with 0-60s in the lower 6 seconds?

No one really has gotten their hands on this Hyundai yet. All cars do not drive the same so you cannot find the optimal launch/shift point within a few hours.

I'm not fond of the numbers, I will wait to see what the other car reviewers like C&D put out. I think the new Altima and Accord are quicker.

FWIW when the Genesis Sedan came out Edmunds tested it and said that the engine felt somewhat lacking for 375hp. Come to think of it, the Genesis V6 is not as quick as some other comparable midsize sedans with 300hp V6s.

I'm not sure that Hyundai's rating method is "accurate" judging by the numbers, but will wait for more tests to get a better idea.

These may be a little better.

Car and Driver

0-60 in 5.7 sec

Highs: Budget entry price, solid handling, stick shifts in all models, 21 mpg.

Lows: Knuckle-rapping plastic, slower than a Z, dorky corporate grille.

The Verdict: K-town revives the Supra, at an affordable price.
