You can ultimately thank him for the fact that not only BMWs, but many upmarket Japanese and German-nameplate cars have I-Drive-type dash controllers.

He also introduced the flimsy, light-plastic electronic shifters found in some BMW's. I tried several of them (sitting still, of course) today at the D.C. Auto Show and found all of them frustrating to use....almost as much as the I-Drive.

Yes. I'm definitely not a fan of it. It feels flimsy, has even flimsier buttons on it, and works, in some ways, contrary to conventional P-R-N-D-L shifters.

I really hate that new BMW shifter, again if something works well, why change it?
