C&D reported that safety and regulatory equipment added 200 pounds to the new model. But with some weight saving measures by Nissan, the net gain was 33 pounds on the model they tested.

Thats more than 0-60. If these cars are racing or at the dragstrip, why WOULDN'T they not do their best launch? I agree that without an aggresive launch they cars are slower (look at 5-60mph times) but thats not the point.
They all are very fast and need different driving techniques to exploit it.

In drag racing, people look at how quickly they reach the 60 foot mark to measure how great of a launch they had. And ofcourse that's going to affect their E.T. But every drag racer knows that's just one one factor of what equates to a relatively fast E.T (along with trap speed).
Anyhow, in order to keep this thread on track, I'll drop the subject from now on.

...and talking about the 370Z, I had the chance to test drive in yesterday. I wasn't blown away, but this car is definately an upgrade over the Z33. It's a great bang for the buck sports car! And yes, that interior is a much needed improvement over the previous Z, hands down.

Actually, it's correct. 200 pounds extra for safety law required equipment. Overall though as few as 30-ish pounds heavier on some models.
Meanwhile, finally got to see the car in person. Not bad. I really like the fender flares from the rear!

Man, this car is just so ugly. I liked the 350Z design a lot better. I think a lot of numbers fanboys are going to drool over the 0-60 specs, and have to weigh design against the price value.
Considering you can buy Evo X well below invoice these days, I don't think that's an accurate statement. Plus, since it's turbo, it's also much easier to tune aftermarket (even a simple ECU reflash like Vishnu that barely costs more than one of my F's tires can bring the X up to ~350-380). I mean seriously, a Vishnu Evo X keeps up with my F no problem til at least 80. And it's almost half the cost.
Of course, who knows what discounts we can get on the 370Z if they don't sell well because of the economy.
