Default ADAC Eco test 2008: Prius winner

Prius is 5th time winner of ADAC Eco test, which rates cars based on their size, performance compared to their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Cars are actually tested at ADAC, with real life case examples (including A/C usage), although they are not driven fast. Test included many of the Bluemotion vehicles that were supposed to get better results than Prius.

Many Lexus models were rated well, including LS600h, and RX400h.
And not only that, IS220d, which often gets rated bad for fuel consumption by german auto media, scored better than Audi and MB rivals and was only worse than BMW's 4cly model with start/stop (and lot less than official numbers suggest). 5 Lexus models got 4 star rating: IS220d, RX400h, LS460, LS600h and SC430 (which is amazing, Prius got 4 stars too).

LS600h scored better than 745d, A8 4.2 TDI Quattro, S420 CDI...

What happens when new Prius comes out?

After looking at the results, they seem to present a quite different picture than your post suggests.

Toyota/Lexus has NO models in THREE of the FIVE classes.

In the "lower middle class" the Prius wins.
In the "super" class the LS600h is mid pack (beaten by MB, Audi and BMW) and the SC430 is second from the bottom.

As you can see, they are comparing Lexus' V8 and V8 hybrid with the German 6-cylinder/diesel models :

Not sure of your point. Lexus doesn't offer diesel 'super' class cars.

point is that you get much better performance in LS600h, because they are comparing just the size of the vehicle.

So if you compare it with similar powered vehicle - V8 diesels, LS600h spends only 5% more fuel and has 20% less CO2, while still being a lot faster vehicle.
