I'm sure they are fun and all, but in north America, the window of opportunity to unleash this pocket rocket is limited...all we have are straight roads and intersection, unlike in europe where they got tons of curvy roads

Why? MR-S is as fast, lighter, better handling, more fuel efficient, and cheaper.....(this is coming from a former S2000 owner).

This car epitomizes why Toyco doesn't do sports cars anymore. Besides, storage room, this car was a home run on all quantitative fronts: price, speed, handling, etc., yet it barely sold and thus discontinued after a few years.

I'm really looking at one of these MR's as a cheap weekend getaway car.

I'd get a 2nd gen MR2 IMHO. Better in all aspects, I am 6'2" and had no problem. If I could fit in one I would buy a Saturn Sky.

Not a problem in CA, lots of curvy roads to have fun on

and you don't really NEED to swap the 2ZZ(GTS) motor to the MR-S in order to have fun. i mean, stock 0-60 is like 5.8-7 second. plus at 2150 lbs, i'm sure you will have A LOT of fun doing twisties with the stock 138hp. plus i rather stay with the 1ZZ and have awesome gas mileage.
2zz will have better gas mileage than 1zz....

Only thing my MR2 lacks is power... it was great when I turboed it... I have 2003 (facelift) with LSD and 6MT...

stock 0-60 is around 7.2 for manual, and SMT ranges between 7.3 to 7.5 (I assume because the 2002 model gets a 5-speed SMT rather then the 6-speed starting from 2003, hence the difference).

I think the SW20 is the best looking of the 3 generations out of the box. It's also the roomiest IMO, but it has no cupholders. My brother has an AW11 and it's surprisingly roomy. The MRS with the soft top is probably the smallest of the 3.

Exactly. S2000 comparatively is too pricey, doesn't handle as well, and you have to rev the snot out of it. The MR-S is MUCH more driveable in city conditions than an S2000.
