I'm not picking on BMW. I cut and paste this from another forum. If I saw the 97k IS, I would have posted that too (someone already did).

We both know BMW salesmen and we both know someone is going to walk in and buy this thing like they have been looking for it their whole life! BMW has that cache with people.

I'm betting the dealer is stuck with that car for a long while - and rightly so.

except that, IMHO, 1 series is way expensive for what it is... and it aint no 3 series.

IMHO the 1 series is just a shortened 3 series and it is difficult to make a car much less expensive just by shortening it.

i see the 1 as a different car than the 3, not necessarilly to be a lesser/lower model, but geared at a different buyer

however, i think that to justify this price, wide body might have been a help, make it a little more sporty, ya kno?

the biggest issue with the 1 (not just this one in particular, << haha its like a joke or something) is that it's not different enough from the 3 so it makes people want to compair

That's exactly why BMW can hang basically the same price tag on the 1-series that it does on the equivalent 3-series.

You would, in general, still use fewer raw materials to build the smaller car. BMW is just taking advantage of the car's projected demand, which, of course, is normal supply-and-demand buisness. If sales fall off, so, in most cases, will the price.

In Germany, where many BMW products are built, you have another issue, though, unrelated to the cost of raw materials. German auto workers are some of the most well-heeled in the buisness. They get huge pay and benefit packages, which limits the amount that BMW can drop some prices, even if sales fall off.

Really? With the IS-F, the price is quite comparable for that category. This car, truly is dealer marked-up beyond normal.

My girlfriend mistook it for a Kia, I don't know if I should laugh or cry.
