What is your point? There are 42 different versions of the Toyota Tundra in the USA.

Now you cited that the USA has the only competitive market
You are in the vacuum. I said the most. Not the only. There is absolutely no doubt that the United States is the most competitive, toughest regulations, restrictions, crash standards, unions etc.

Exactly. Because of these alternatives there are other choices for the consumer to make. Don't forget Sequioa, Toyota's own competing brand model. All of the choices makes it harder to sell a Land Cruiser than ever before.

When Toyota was selling Land Cruiser/LX470 in 1998 there was no Seqioua, no Highlander, no FJ, no X5, no X6, Escalade just came to market, no GX470, no Range Rover Sport and the list goes on. Toyota was selling 30k 100 series Toyotas in 1998/1999.

In some markets...the Land Cruiser competes with the Range Rover, Defender Mercedes G class, Nissam Pajero....most are solid rear. Toyota didn't go solid rear because the rest of the world does not demand that in the segment. Toyota did go IRS because a domestic based large SUV must have to have more than moderate sales.

I think you meant the Mitsubishi Pajero or the Nissan Patrol...anyway I'd take the GS 350 anyday rather than the Hyundai Genesis 4.6. It's a good accomplishment for Hyundai to come out with a Luxury car and I hope they take it further...

Mr. Suzuki, chief engineer of the LS was not to be stopped. The LS was the quietest, the fastest, the lightest, the most reliable, with the best MPG. The LS truly was a rare BREAKTHROUGH of a car.

No one successfully penetrated the Luxury market from Asia until the LS and Lexus came. NO ONE. The Maxima and Cressida simply were not luxury cars.

Lexus gave Hyundai the CONFIDENCE TODAY to launch a car like the GEnesis. The Genesis is not the first car to not have a luxury badge to try to break into the luxury market. What makes it incredible is maybe the name, its a HYUNDAI, which still conjures images of crap to many people, no matter how many gains they have made in years.

Mazda 929 and Millenia. Oldsmobile Auroa. Current Buicks. The current and new Nissan Maxima. Loaded Chrysler 300C. Toyota Avalon.

Those are just a few that tried and try to sell luxurious or near luxury vehicles without the badge.

The Genesis might be slightly above those efforts but its goal is the same. To try to steal luxury brand buyers into a non luxury brand car
Agreed! Lexus, with the introduction of the LS400, literally turned the automotive world upside down. Mercedes Benz, BWM, and Audi were left standing there with their jaws on the floor, scrambling back to the drawing boards. The "stacked champaign glasses" was truly, marketing genius. IMO, no car company could ever recreate what Lexus did in 1990. I honestly believe that the LS400 is the reason that a current model C class is not $120,000 today.
I remember seeing a brand new 190e in 1986 and the window sticker was 26k. 22 years later, how much is base model C class? 29k? 30k? I think Lexus had a lot to do with that.

These cars aren't usually on a track, Paul......they are primarily street cars.

I feel like I am in a room of lil' girls arguing about who's got larger breasts......

Can one of you car gurus answer my question above from page 6?

My thought is if the perfomance of the v6 300hp model is comparable to the gs350 it may be a viable low cost alternative....

Don't know about its competition but the 1990 LS did it in about 7.5 sec.
