What are they? How much hp will they give a car with twin turbos? Is catless the only way to go? I am considering getting these new catted DP's from Riss Racing since I want to pass smog.
Downpipes are the first part of the exhaust system that attaches to the exhaust port of your turbos. Typically aftermarket downpipes remove the primary cats, (so they are not legal for street use), and are mandrel bend tubing with much less restriction to exhaust flow. Expect somewhere around 10-20+ HP increase from well designed aftermarket downpipes. Make sure that the ones you're getting have high flow, low restriction cats.
if it has a printed label on the thing itself, that says something like CARB Legal, or Smog legal or somethin like that. then its ok for smog, well its ok in the sense that it will be allowed to be smogged, but as for emissions, it can still fail.

As Turbo_gg states, a downpipe is attached to the headers and normally replaces the cats. Headers may be CARB approved, but a downpipe will not be. I'm sure Turbo_gg, being a Supra owner and living in CA, knows all too well...
SilverBull, if you don't know what a downpipe is, you should do some research, both about turbo cars and specifically about the 335. CL is definitely not the place for this - I'd find a bimmer forum and do some reading about the car's response to modifications. Given the recent news about manufacturers of turbo cars voiding warranties based on mods, I'm sure the last thing you want to do is void your new car warranty for a few hp.
