im going to ponder about this some more and maybe go try a e63 over the weekend. there were no e63 on the lot where i was at. the clock is wierd for me... its all so different to me making me not want the change.
I love the E55! What model year E55 were you looking at? There are a number of minor changes from the '03 to '06 model years.
The E55 definitely is a different animal than the E63. More brutal and less refined than the E63. Also lacks the body kit, suspension tweaks and brakes found in the E63. But the E55 is a monster off the line, especially with all that torque
The instrument clusters are different on the E55 versus E63. Below are pics from each.

As for interior quality, IMO, the E63 interior blows away my GS430 interior (with the exception of the COMAND system). But it's not a fair comparison since the higher priced E63 has many more upgrades like the sport seats and Alcantara headliner.

Ha Henry, it wook me a little while to get use to the clock as well.
wow, first time i see the e55 cluster. it doesn't look that appealing at all...... i very much prefer the e64 cluster, which i was pleasantly surprised (impressed) except the clock
how are the brakes and suspension different from the e55 to e63? at least i thought both have the same brake systems, 8 pots front? and i believe e55 has body kits as well?
The E55 is a sick ride. Dump the GS for it if you have the money fo sho! I own two Lexus cars but that ride is pretty sweet. I am looking at the sports sedans(C63, M3 and S4/RS4) My IS350 just not enough speed any more.

don't even consider s4, look up to rs4 as "true" contender to the m3 and c63
i went to test one out to see if liked it enough to buy it. answer is: i love the power but thats it. the car didnt have the same perks like my GS. the interior is pretty plain with the exception of the adjustable side seat bolsters, massagers and a few other things. suspension was tight and steering was tight the instrument panel is pretty boring...it has a clock in there! given my GS doesnt have the power of the AMG, i couldnt bring myself to buy the E55 regardless of the power. i love the interior in my GS much more than the E55 interior. for a car that cost twice the amount, other than raw hp, i couldnt do it.... maybe i was expecting too much. now if lexus would get it all together and make a super sedan, id buy that for sure. i was looking for something with the same luxury feel with massive amount of hp.
Are we talking about a '02 and older E55 AMG or a '03 and newer?????
AMG vehicles are "special vehicles" in nearly every aspect. I came quite close to getting one myself but I required more room and thus my 7 Series purchase. But i can NOT forget the sheer brute strength and refinement of that car! I can't even compare it to a GS or regular sedan (anything under 400hp) for that matter. If you didn't like that car for what it is... you just didn't like it. I found the seats to be almost perfect. And the interior to be quite livable. It was actually allot more docile than i expected for such a beast of power.

Exactly, this is why I'm asking the guy what year E55 it was.
Cause if its a '03+ E55 AMG and youre saying that the interior in your '00 GS300 is better then I have to call major BS on you even sitting in one.
My brother in law had a '05 E55 AMG for a few years and I got to drive it extensively and I couldnt even start comparing how much better the car was over my GS400 in EVERY perspective.
