I just dont get this EX35 thing. The FX35/45 is already one of the smallest SUVs out there, why did they need a smaller one? And for 45K, what the hell are they smoking???

While everyone's tastes, of course, differ, I found the FX series fugly, too stiff-riding (though later models were softened a little), deficient in fit/finish, rather cheaply-done interiors, and overall just an unpleasant vehicle. The EX, while smaller and not particularly cost-efficient, does away with most of those problems.

If you like your MDX, why not give the RDX a test-drive? It may confirm that the EX35 is really the car you want, but then again you may find the RDX actually fits your needs even better and for a bit less coin.

The fact that you won't buy it doesn't necessarily mean that it missed its target. Perhaps you were not its target to start with.

Anyone know what Infiniti's sales target is for the EX? It seems like it might be niche vehicle with a limited audience.

Personally I like the idea of it, but with limited space and a price approaching $45K, it probably won't appeal to the typcial crossover buyer - More to the sports oriented, wanting something a little unique.

Nice review Marshall. Infiniti may have a winner here. Good to see them not being ho-hum conservative with their product

So out of curiosity, I looked at RX specs, as I am not to familiar. You get 20 more cubic feet of space and the car is larger and weighs barely any more. The gas mileage for both is pretty much identical. You can EASILY get a nice RX for 45 grand. As for image, you can say the RX is a "womans" car, fine, but Infiniti squarely aimed the EX for woman so that is a moot point.
I have to agree with you. When my wife and I went looking for her new car,
we had the EX, RDX, MDX, RX, and Highlander on our list to look at. While the EX is a very nice car, we just didn't see the value in it compared to other cars in the same price range (MDX and RX) and for 7K less, I thought the RDX was just as good for a whole lot less. Only time will tell how successful the EX will be, but I'd be willing to bet that after initial demand is met by the "gota have it folks", we will see huge $$$$$ discounts off MSRP!

The 45K price only refers to relatively loaded AWD versions. Lesser versions start in the mid-high 30s.

Thanks.
It's a winner if you are not NBA-sized, riding in back.

And it depends on what you call "conservative" in design. Certainly it has a lot of nice materials inside...materials that are normally associted with rather "conservative" luxury vehicles. The chassis, of course, is anything BUT conservative, except for the overboosted steering.

My wife ended up with an 08 RX350 with nav. There was a nice GS460 on the show room floor but I couldn't talk her into it. O well...in 2 or 3 years, it will be my turn to replace the 01 GS430 and maybe the GS-F will be out by then.

Another point. Infiniti states the EX is NOT recommended for Towing. Not even occasionally.

wow! i've been reading through some of the comments since i first posted this and the reviews seem to be mixed.

anyway, we now have one on order:
-RWD
-moonlight white; stone interior,
-tech pkg
-premium pkg
-luxe pkg
-navigation pkg

We spent about 3 hrs at the dealership test driving a couple and looking at colors. We finally decided on one, but they didn't want to give us what we wanted for the MDX. So, we left and got the MDX appraised at CarMax for $2K more than the dealership.

But when we finally heard from the dealer again the one we wanted was sold! So, we reserved one that's due to be here mid-March. So, we'll have to be patient until then. We're both very excited for it!

I'm super excited because now not only do I have my very favorite Is to drive, but now I can play with a new toy! And I know some people think it's a little overpriced, but I agree with you guys posted on here that it's definitely a luxurious interior and a beautiful vehicle. We did look at the RDX, but it felt kind of cheap on the inside and I wasn't big on the 4cylinder turbo thing. (I used to have a TSX and I'd take that over the RDX just my opinion!). Plus my partner is a technogeek and loves the gadgets!
