Yeah I was referring to the latter. I'm not going to run my car in NASCAR, F1, or CART anytime soon

Too bad it contains 29% less energy. So your performance will be even LOWER than if you hadn't built up your engine to require race gas, and just run it on Premium instead.

From an emissions point of view, it doesn't make much sense.....for now. As technology gets better in the generation of ethanol and other renewable sources of fuel, I'm sure they will work to reduce those emissions. It's inevitable.

From a reliance on foreign oil point of view, it makes total sense. We have a ton of land that is unused/untapped in America that would be ripe for growing corn. Imagine total independence on foreign oil? WOW!

Wow indeed. Unfortunately the math says that is totally impossible with current technology. Imported oil will become greater and greater as the years go forward. You can nibble around the edges with ethanol, hybrids and other novelties, but imported oil is here to stay until a totally new fuel system yet developed is put in place. We are talking DECADES. If we want lower fuel bills, get a smaller vehicle, use mass transport, and live closer to work.
