Toyota "crashes" in reliability rankings
IMO they are nitpicking on little issues, is there a mechanical or electrical problem that has a relaibility issue ? NO ! Most problems people are complaining about are the tire noise but that is due to low profile tires and is a tire issue not a car issue. Does Lexus manufacture the tires ? NO ! The other little issue I see compalints about is the rattle or ticking noise from windshield also a little thing , not major. And lastly the other complaints is brake dust, how come people don't complain about dust on wheels of Mercedes & BMW ? I see plent around with brake dust build up on front wheels and is due to high performance soft pads. There is a TSIB out for rattle and brake pad replacement. Does Merceds & BMW have TSIB for pad replacement ? NO ! Mercedes & BMW , Audi all are below average reliability does this stop people from buying them ? Consumer reports expect GS3 to be a perfect car with no issues ? I don't think any manufacturer has a car like that. I have enjoyed my GS3 since I took possesion in July and am tired of people knocking it for little issues.
Tundra Problems Bring "Shame" to Toyota
Toyota's global manufacturing chief, Takeshi Uchiyamada, said that the problems with the 2007 Tundra have brought "shame" to the Japanese automaker. Since its launch earlier this year, the Tundra has experienced problems with faulty camshafts and torque converters, as well as cracking tailgates. The Tundra V8 was also bumped from Consumer Reports' recommended list earlier this year.
"We have had some trouble on the first stage," Takeshi Uchiyamada told Automotive News. "New models typically have problems, but Toyota doesn't want that."
Uchiyamada cited the new platform and new production facility — in San Antonio, Texas — as the leading causes for a dip in quality. Uchiyamada didn't put blame on Toyota's expansion for the Tundra's problems. When asked about the automkaer's push for the number one spot, Uchiyamada said Toyota "has a sales volume expansion plan, and we have to keep up."
Toyota recently opened a Global Training Center in Japan to help "assembly line managers better understand the Toyota Production System." "At the engineering stage," Uchiyamada said, "we need to identify and control the condition of machines, materials and procedures."

From what I've been told and read the problems that generated the bad rating from CR on the GS3 AWD include frequent malfunction/failure of the power accessories and audio system. However what I don't understand is how come the GS3 RWD and GS4 are not affected since they all essentially use the same items unless Lexus sells so few of the 2 models that they don't show up on the radar screen. CR states the problem with the Camry V6 is the 6-speed automatic transmission.
Yes, this is weird. I can understand Camry V6 and very surprised ES350 is not on the downgraded list - just read their forum with all the tranny issues and buybacks (myself including).
Regarding AWD, I might have a theory
GS350 AWD was downgraded because of all the rattle issues with '06 GS300 models. Just do the search on this forum to see how many complains you will find about rattle noises with '06 modules versus '07. The reason why AWD got especially such a bad rep because AWD is ONLY sold on East Coast in states with a cold weather. Often the rattle noise becomes more severe when temperature falls down to single digits. It doesn't mean West Coast RWD GS300/GS430 didn't have rattling, but probably it wasn't as bad as in cold weather of East Coast.
