Default Official: Subaru Impreza WRX STI

Posted on Tuesday 9 October 2007

Subaru has finally taken the wraps off its new Impreza WRX STI ahead of its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of the month. The car is developed from the current Impreza hatch but picks up shortened front and rear overhangs, a longer wheelbase and widened body flares. Integrated into its front bumper is a pair of fog lights with chrome accents and side vents feeding cold air to the car’s brakes.

Under the hood resides a heavily revised version of Subaru’s venerable 2.0L boxer engine, fed by a twin-scroll turbocharger and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox only. No official details have been released for the output figures but information leaked from a brochure reveals the new STI will likely develop up to 304hp and 311lb-ft of torque.

Drive will be sent to all four-wheels via Subaru’s symmetrical AWD system and the new multi-mode Drivers Control Center Differential (DCCD), Subaru Intelligent Driver (SI-Drive) and Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC).

wow 8k rpm redline? Thats sweet!

I love hatches. I have an Acura GSR Hatch and you can fit so much **** in a hatch. This STI may be my next car. If I decide to get rid of my IS.

Looks really good. With these official pics, I definitely think IMO it looks better than the Evo X.

I agree, this car looks pretty good, especially in black.

Anyone else notice the Toyota-sourced push-button start?

So many cars/SUV's look like RX's from the rear. I guess Lexus should be flattered.

The dark blue one kinda looked like a dropped RX when I first looked at it. I like the look of it. It will definitely be a good seller.

Thanks, Andrew. This picture tells me something I was wondering.....if the WRX and STi was going to have a temperature gauge or not (the answer, obviously, is yes). The new 2008 American-spec regular Impreza DOESN'T (see my review). Go figure.

Now I wonder if the USDM version will have the 2.5L boxer like the last STi. Probably make a bit more torque and power. I cant wait to see one in person.

When is this car hitting the showroom? What's the price tag on this?? I like the look in silver, I'm sure white will look equally as HOT!

The rear quarter doesn't look great to me, the rear fender flare is really bulgy. It's hidden better with the white.

i know a lot of ppl out there think that this re-designed Impreza is not as good looking as the previous generation. However, this is the first time, I am actually thinking of getting a Subaru. This STi is just what I am hopping to put in my garage.
