The ES 350 and the G35 aren't really comparable. Infiniti did have the I35 which would be very comparable to the ES but the I was discontinued. There is no 2007 or 2008 I35. The G35 is probably more comparable to the IS 250/350. We all know the ES is a front wheel drive car and will always be a front wheel drive car. The ES caters to a different market than the G35. Looks are subjective. Both cars look good imho. The ES has been around for awhile, longer than the G. In terms of reliability I'm sure both cars are a good match. At this point it's more about preference. Some will prefer the sportiness of the G and other will prefer the more refined, softer ride of the ES...

Funny how you brought this up bit because that's what we did over the weekend: ES vs. G sedan and G37 coupe

Infiniti has come a long way. Their interior is soooo much nicer with lots of goodies

But to answer that question, ES is for people who wants a nice cushy ride with bigger interior space.
But like what Robarapta said, I don't like the new interior and as discussed before, seems like a downgrade from the last ES

Most of the people don't know/don't care for FWD or RWD anyways.

B/t the 2, I'd get the G sedan.

Exactly, we sold our GX because the wife wanted another car. She likes the sportier cars so we started looking at the IS, then we tried to get the kids in the back seat, yeah right. I tried to then get her to look at the ES but she wanted something different, wasn't felling the ES at all. The new car is on the backburner right now but she's leaning towards the M35 now.

I don't really think people would actually cross shop G and ES.

Interesting comment, since the ES350 shares a lot more in common with the Camry than the G35 does with the Altima.

Maybe not a whole lot, but there will be some that will cross shop them based on size alone.

I actually know a guy who had an avalon, & cross-shopped between a G35 sedan(the previous) & a new Avalon, & picked the G35 sedan mainly because of looks & also because Infiniti is a luxury brand & the Avalon is a Toyota, & he never owned a luxury brand car before.
He said the G35 sedan ride stiffer but still acceptable to him, & sporty driving dynamics isn't even an important issue to him.
Not everybody cross shop cars & group them together like the car magazines do, & compare them with the same criteria & mindset

Looks? G35 to me wins hands down in and out

Price - G35 starts $2270 less
ES - starts at 33720
G35 - starts at 31450

After reviewing the specs and options on these two vehicles, why would ANYONE buy an ES350?

Come on Paul... You answered your own thread.

From an OVERALL: Stats and Pricing comparo, the Infiniti absolutely clowns the ES.

Well by your logic, a G35 is a gusied up 350Z.

bit, I've driven both recently and I'll post my thoughts later. I will say I would prefer the G35 over the ES, I simply cannot drive FWD anymore.

THere are some solid reasons to buy the ES 350 over a G35 though.

ES350 is the second best selling entry level sedan in the U.S.

Americans clearly like cushy riding cruisers with a luxury badge.

I think the ES 350 is a better looking vehicle, both inside and out, but that's just my opinion. The new G35 is more of a styling refresh over the previous model. I also prefer the interior ergonomics of the ES. Not to mention the better structural design of the ES; better side-impact results, and in the recent collision damage reports, the G35 is the most vulnerable to moderate bumper damage and $$$ repair costs in the entire class; the ES 350 is significantly better there as well.

However, both cars are for different markets. Consumer Reports put it best when they selected both vehicles for praise in the entry-luxe category. They said the G35 was biased towards sport, the ES 350 biased towards luxury, and the Acura TL split the difference. And yes, the ES is the only FWD sedan Lexus offers; I much prefer RWD but more often use FWD. I wouldn't mind have an ES...

I think it would be cool if you could get this ES in a V8. Dunno if anyone would buy it. I also think it would be cool if it had the RX400h powertrain in it. Then I would definatly put my money on one.

That would not be cool; the chassis isn't designed to handle that much power especially with it being front wheel drive.

I haven't driven the new ES or the new G35. However, they're two different flavors. The new ES interior doesn't knock my socks off, but it's still better than the G35's.
