Tuner Special: Hartge V300+
Hartge, a German BMW tuning specialist, uses LP gas to turn the BMW 1 Series into a fast fuel saver.
Hartge V300+ is an LPG-fueled BMW 1 Series that is going for an LPG vehicle speed record.
Government agencies in Germany are helping Hartge in its quest to make liquid petroleum gas the new alt-fuel idea.
MERZIG, Germany — BMW tuning specialist Hartge is putting a new twist on its latest edition of the 1 Series.
Hartge's V300+, being developed in conjunction with the University of Technology and Economics in Saarbrücken, will run on liquefied petroleum gas and aims to establish a speed record for an LPG-fueled engine.
The car will produce 550 horsepower, with a projected top speed of more than 186 mph. Among the benefits of LPG are more power and torque and lower exhaust emissions.
Assisting in the project are the federal Ministry for Environment and the state Ministry for Economics and Work of the Saarland.
What this means to you: With all the talk of hybrids and clean diesels, the industry seems to have all but forgotten LPG as an alt fuel with great potential.
