I still can't figure out the purpose of the different Garmin sub-brands - Nuvi, StreetPilot, etc.
Seems like the Nuvis generally have bigger screens?
Nüvi's are pocketsized....and WILL fit in your pocket....while StreetPilot's have a relatively huge backside (think old style crt-tv vs lcd/plasma-backside )...and it wont fit in most pockets

Thanks! Is it meant to fit in one's pocket so it can also be used as a portable nav? I mean can you use it that way, for example when hiking?

By "fits in your pocket", he means they're slim and light and very easy to bring around. The StreetPilots are a bit larger (larger screen too of course.. up to 7").
I don't know if Nuvis and StreetPilots can be used for hiking. For TomTom, we have someone who made "Off-Road Navigator" which we can use for going off the beaten path (sorta helped when I went off road to look for fossils with a friend of mine. My friend had a Garmin but it's the traditional GPS unit, not a car-based GPS unit so obviously that was better suited as it had the trails loaded in its database but both units agree closely in terms of distance and direction. Pretty neat).
I closed this old poll but I have to say the price of these systems have dropped tons and it seems it is now an "every person" product, not just for techies...

mmhmm. My ONE can be bought for $129 on Black Friday . I paid $450 last year after a $100 rebate .
I bought the Navigon 2100 navigation system for just $149.99 at Office Depot. I think its graphics is the best among the portable ones, even better than the Garmin Nuvi.
