And that's why NHRA and other sanctioning bodies require scatter shields. A blown flywheel or clutch has band-sawed a lot of cars in two, maiming and killing drivers either from the flying shrapnel or the resulting fire as the fuel system is shredded.
Even a simple kevlar ballistic blanket can help keep a blown clutch or flywheel under control. If you are going racing, take a serious look at the equipment required for sanctioned events. This stuff is not terribly expensive, and it could save your life.
